The OST was recorded by Broadcast and the sound design is fucking intense and lusciously detailed too. Anyone interested in sound in film should watch this.

Nice choice. I always loved the music that played in the final scene, as well as how music could be heard through just day to day scenarios like the workers out on the field and how their hacking at crops created a beat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9Q7eImnYpc

The whole OST is beautifully composed. Moments of wonderful ambience and then like the track above, true oriental fucking jams, man.

GOAT OST coming through.
>>
>>51712002
Yes, I can agree with this. Philip Glass composed music for the whole trilogy, didn't he? But I think Koyaanisqatsi was at a time he didn't believe in composing for films so he just re-recorded an old composition of his or something like that, right? Nonetheless, fucking amazing soundtrack.
>>
Wes Anderson films are usually pretty good

I finally sat down and watched Andrei Rublev. Had the Tarkovsky box set for years but I kept putting off Andrei Rublev because of its length, kinda disappointed with myself for that as I ended up loving it. It's pretty fucking brutal and striking, man. Andrei taking a vow of silence about half way through the film to punish himself for the sin of murdering another man, breaking it in the end to comfort someone is kinda beautiful.

Frank was cool. Charming, funny, surprisingly dark and cynical at times. Really liked the music the band in that film were doing and a bit disappointed it isn't a real band hah

I saw Birdman
really impressive actually, reminded me of Rope and Black Swan (ever so slightly)
But the other night I saw the Bresson film Pickpocket and it blew me away. Reminded me of crime and punishment
>>
>I'm an art film man myself. Bergman, Tarkovsky, the list goes on...
>>
>>51712202
Is this film actually worth a watch? Heard polarising things about it.
>>
>>51713485
Even genuine film art enthusiasts enjoy the works of plebs like Tarkovsky and Bergman, m8. it's not like their works are bad.
>>
>>51713485
replace bergman and tarkovsky with anderson and jarmusch and then you're spot on
>>
>>51713464
Everything about Birdman was incredible. It's a film that actually makes an artistic statement. Most other oscar contender in recent history just try tell a sad story, with bonus points for white guilt. Birdman is about how we, as human beings, perceive the world around us.
>>
>>51713497
I liked it but honestly the only way you'll find out is if you sit down with it sometime. As you said, it's polarising. It's cool to see Scrlett Johannson trying out a role outside of her comfort zone. Without telling much about the film - it's seriously best not to know anything about it - she plays as an extraterrestrial without human empathy, luring men back to her resting place as her victims. It's partially hidden camera too as some of the men she picks up in her transit van early in the film didn't know they were being filmed, but I think that's only like one or two people. Overall, it's a pretty unsettling film and I think you should watch the trailer just to get a brief impression of what you'll be in for.
>>
>>51713539

There's nothing wrong with Bergman or Tarkovsky, it's just that they are these go-to directors for people who wouldn't dare to say they were into a director which isn't universally considered great and also well known.
>>
Any silent film fans on /mu/?

What are your preferred scores for some of your favourite silent films?

For me, Biosphere's score for Man With The Movie Camera is hauntingly cold and suits that film well. Also really enjoyed KTL's scoring for The Phantom Carriage.
>>
>>51713967
I getcha, and I do see people like that a lot too. People who claim they love art cinema yet can only tell me one Tarkovsky film and how it was "beautiful just because"
>>
>>51713984

I need to see it, man. Recently been getting into FW Murnau with Faust so Nosferatu will be my next one to see of his.
>>
>>51713984
Biosphere should score for films like The Great White Silence, South and The Epic Of Everest. His music is perfect for those settings.
>>
>>51714056

I watched Kurosawa's Drunken Angel. A bittersweet tragedy. I loved how honest the film felt, there was no bullshitting and no over sentimentality which I loved. Too much sentiment in films puts me right off from watching them, so it felt very genuine when Drunken Angel had its intimate moments. Also that ending.

Kurosawa is always pretty earnest, one of the things that makes his films so great to watch.
>>
>>51714870
did you watch the original, or the one from 2007?
>>
>>51714877
Yeah, it definitely seems like it. Been watching a lot of his films recently and it's somewhat charming how genuinely honest they all are. I like how reassuring a lot of his films are too - things don't usually go the way they were planned to, but efforts are appreciated. I'm thinking specifically about Ikiru where the council worker only has a few months to live so he works as hard as he can to help out the community with building the playground and even though he was bullied and intimidated to try and not get the work done, he fucking did it. Even if the scumbag vice-mayor took credit for it, it was enough to know that people really appreciate the man's efforts after his death. That film hit home hard for me.
>>
>>51714897
the original
>>
>>51714870
I remember reading that Haneke intended the film to be a form of punishment for the audience. The more they watched, the more they'd be punished with something they didn't want to see happen. I think it was meant to challenge the audience and how far the audience would go, like the kidnappers in the film, because as an audience we usually want to see bad shit happen on film.
>>
>>51714949
Nice! that's one of my favorite movies
>>
>>51714968
It's kinda like (in /mu/ analogy terms at least) Filth by Swans. It's supposed to feel fucked up
>>
>>51714933
The way he tells story's is kinda doestoyevsky-esque. No BS, just humans doing shit. I love it.
>>
>>51714933
That film should hit home hard for everyone, it's a personal message to those stuck in office jobs or those who have been stuck in beaurocratic potholes in which they're passed from sector to sector in which nothing ever gets resolved.
>>
