Believe it or not, I liked Death Grips on my first listen. The instrumentation is what really got me into them because I thought it sounded so cool and different. But reading through Rides lyrics drew them further in my heart. I don't understand what turns people off about them so much. Can someone explain why it turns so many people off?
Cringe

They're plebs
That's literally the only reason
Also Ride screams too much for them
Congratulations!
It's because they sound so harsh, aggressive and are so different to "normal" music/hip hop.

>While the album was initially planned for release later this year, Jamie Hewlett, aka the other half of Gorillaz besides Albarn, has confirmed that the release has been pushed back a little bit.
>Providing an update via Gorillaz fan page GorillazNorthAmerica, Jamie promises that the new Gorillaz album is “really fuckin’ special.” Saying that the album “can’t be rushed,” the fan page confirmed that the album will be releasing in 2017 rather than later this year.

So it's been delayed then, fuck. Hope it's worth it.
I heard Herbie Hancock will be on the album too. That's crazy.
I hope Del the Funky is on this album. He's almost like a member.

Pitchfork: How did you even start making these videos in the first place?
Lucien Hughes: I actually got into make these Simpsons-based videos when I was off university sick a few months ago. I was wasting a lot of time on the internet whilst recuperating, mostly on the Simpsons Shitposting Facebook group. It’s basically a meme-oriented group with a lot of in-jokes and mediocre content. I’m an admin there and we try to keep the humor relatively abstract and obscure rather than needlessly edgy, 4chan-style shitposting.

I think Fantano's growing popularity as a person rather than as a music reviewer (I have friends who only watch thatistheplan, no joke) is also causing this.
fuck off king coffee I know it's you
I'm listening to this album again and I'm still completely torn on it.
I agree with (most of) the political views but the lyrics on some of the songs are atrocious. They read like poems submitted to Facebook from a teenager who thinks she's smarter than her peers. Anohni makes a solid effort to get a political agenda across and does it effectively, but the lyrics are so literal and clumsy that it's hard not to scoff at sometimes.
Anohni has a great voice, but I don't know if I care for it very much. It sounds like she's intentionally forcing this wobbly, gender-neutral tonal accent that I find equally annoying and intriguing. She's a conventionally good singer, but something about her voice annoys me.
The instrumentals are amazing but Anohni's vocal and lyrical contributions throw me off.
The whole thing feels like The Knife's Shaking the Habitual done wrong. Shaking the Habitual was incredibly challenging and rewarding to listen to, and its lyrics were, in my opinion, moving and sophisticated in a way. It creates this amazingly moody and somewhat intimidating atmosphere that really resonates with the listener. Hopelessness, on the other hand, is just too clunky and inarticulate for me.
Honestly, I can't see myself listening to this album only for Anohni's voice and opinions.
I seriously can't tell if I love it or hate it. What are your opinions?

This differs from /prod/ in that it is more focused on art music and music theory. That is not to say /prod/'s electronic music is unwelcome, by all means, post here! But follow in the footsteps of the classical composers of the 20th century who experimented in electronic music. But remember, this is NOT /classical/. Any art music, such as jazz, is acceptable
Post clyps, and please post accompanying notation so we can accurately critique your composing from a theory perspective
