John Peel and Pierro Scaruffi (both extremely well versed in contemporary and experimental music since the 1960s) regard this as the best rock album ever made.

Unfortunately it has been memed to death so people seem to automatically assume it's shit. It has definitely gotten more popular and is talked about endlessly here (usually critically). John Peel and Piero Scaruffi are just listeners, though, no matter how well-versed they are. I wouldn't consider this THE best album I've ever listened to, but it's definitely one of them. If nothing else, the poetry is undeniably fantastic.
