What do you guys think of the Lounge Lizards?
is this jazz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPuanBHf4iA
One of my biggest jazz regrets is not seeing Lounge Lizards live when they came to town in the 90s when I was beginning to dig jazz (I old)
I like most things John Lurie has evere done from music to painting to acting to fishing show (especially that) and Voice of Chunk is a legit great album IMHO.
Anyone who likes Lounge Lizards should check out the posthumous John Lurie National Orchestra album Invention of Albums

I just started watching it and it's god-tier. I'm surprised /mu/ doesn't talk about it since it would be up this board's alley.
Tried making a HIP HIP HOP thread.
Let's talk about your favorite albums.

anyone here on /mu/ self-taught themselves how to play an instrument consider themselves any good?
how long did it take you to get to that level of skill?
>>61396590
what exactly counts as self taught?
I used internet videos to learn guitar, piano and drums.
7 years for guitar
3 for piano
1 for drums
I can play some pretty difficult stuff on guitar, my piano and drum skill are alright but nothing great.
being self taught is as good or better than any teacher
both Guthrie Govan and Shawn Lane are self taught and are technically two of the greatest of all time,
also are two of my personal favorites.
I'm self taught on sax, for 10 years
bassoon for 12
bass for 6 months (but practicing this the most so getting pretty good)
my speciality is arranging and composing though
I would say I became good after say 150 days of 3-4 hour practice. Music is work. I have two jobs, my menial one and when I get home, I practice
>>61396590
Taught myself bass in combination with lessons and while I'm no Jaco I'm alright at the instrument
Took me about 1 year to get comfortable and start playing difficult pieces
Taught myself guitar and some drums as well

Art Angels is genuinely a great album. Quite possibly AOTY.
Yearly reminder that this is still the biggest musical achievement of this decade.
tell me why I should listen to this? I listen to metal and rock mostly. But why would this be any good?
yeah sure, the watered down version of death grips is a big musical achievement
>>61396733
yeah because Death Grips is known for using elements of soul, reggae, gospel, acid house music etc.
Holy shit this is actually really good
It's actually really okay.
no its not.
kill yourself before 2016
It's a good album. Some songs are great, while others aren't that good. Although the album cover makes me uncomfortable.
Is he the viper of folk music? he have like 70 albums dude wtf!!!!
Nah. If anything Viper is trying to be like Jandek.
Exploring his discog is very fun. Here's a flowchart I made to help you tackle his huge discography.
also I just remembered both are from Houston. huh...
>>61395821
Fuck it let's make this a Jandek general
Nice flowchart btw. I would say later On is essential to Stage 1, but otherwise it looks good
What kind of music does he listen to?
gogol bordello
To Pimp A Butterfly is his AOTY. He's a huge fan of unintentional comedies.
