How do i make Ghost Trap Edition
no /prod/ thread in sight so i thought i'd make one
mixing on headphones, yes or no?
if yes, which headphones do you use?

FL, most of it is synth1 with the exception of the drums which are a basic 808
i think it needs some kind of prominent lead, but it might clutter things up even more

I've only been producing around 4 months so someone correct me if i'm wrong, but there isn't much loss in mixing on headphones if you have another place to monitor the sound to some degree for comparison?
Also, if you are using headphones like your Sennheiser's then there shouldn't be vast discrepancies between the true sound and the sound you hear on playback.
Ghost trap (I can only assume) is going to have ambient p& synths with thick, widened sort of sub and heavy kick underneath that sub. Claps are traps snares. Trap uses triplets so dont be afraid to line things up off time. Trap also uses velocity ramps within hi hats to add undertone and texture to the simple drum beats.
By this, i mean laying 8 (or however many) hi hat hits with progressively harder velocity towards the end of a 4/8/16 bar frame, in effect it will add a cresendo to the mix.
Sub bass should be prominent in the mix, but still underneath the rest of the track.

Following up with an anon who was telling me about getting an external sound card over an internal.

So basically, an external one will have more hands-on functionality I take it rather than an internal sound card? That's the main advantage I take it, no?

I used to use headphones a long time ago (Beats then Sony for quality), and I don't regret switching to monitors.

i saw someone on youtube defend "Bitch U Guessed It" by saying it's not supposed to be complex or intelligent, it's supposed to "go hard". i don't really see how a four-note piano loop and an 808 constitutes as "going hard".
Not all music is made to be complex or lyrically thought provoking or whatever.
Since music's purpose is to convey emotion a number of musicians make music that "goes hard" because it is tailored to a lifestyle/feeling that fans of said musician could resonate with

Why is this so popular? I legitimately don't understand, it's pretty ok, but just needlessly repetitive; there are 7 tracks, and like what, maybe at most 12 different very BASIC song sections in the whole thing? Just seems like a few undeveloped ideas arbitrarily tossed together and called songs. The sound of it isn't bad, but also not really anything to write home about, and I personally can't even listen to it just anywhere or anytime because it sounds pretty specifically like the beach.
That last part is just my opinion but really, it's like a couple of basic ideas stretched out through repetition without variation to album length. I don't get why this is so universally beloved. If you like it, hey, more power to you, but I don't understand how this appealed SO highly to SO many people. What's the secret?
