Chakra - Satekoso
Hey /mu/, I've been reading into sub-genres of rock, metal, and hip hop and have found that certain genres have a strangely strong regional scene. For example, New Orleans has a pretty strong Sludge Metal scene and Providence has a reasonably prevalent Noise rock scene, The PNW had grunge. And of course, Atlanta has quite a bit of trap. Can anyone think of any other genres with specific ties to cities or areas?

Seattle is still making good grunge senpai

San Diego
I think it's the easiest to see in hip-hop.
NY = grimy, gritty, "hard" rap
L.A. = g-funk
Atlanta = trap
Chicago = jazzy rap
Seattle = grunge rap (and Macklemore)
Houston = lean music, but calmer than trap
Detroit = J-Dilla

The point of these threads, is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to, and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.
We track our progress using calendars, which we fill with the albums we listen to on each day and a rating of some sort for all of them. There are templates...

>Sun Kil Moon & Jesu - Sun Kil Moon/Jesu
This is /blog/: the album. Kozelek's words are abysmal, more often than not listing his plans for the day or namedropping famous people he's seen recently. He even reads (and laughs at) his fanmail, and on more than just one track. The support is a little fairer, especially as an ethereal synth-driven backing. But also when turning to super tedious and fuzzed out drone guitars, even driving at eye-wateringly repetitive riffs - simply because they render Kozelek's awful lyrics unintelligible....

My step dad was really into psychedelic music so I gave him a copy of MPP.
>This isn't psychedelic Dave
>Now Jimi Hendrix that's some real shit
>After the 70s music lost all of its soul
>Let's just listen to Sgt. Pepper again
At least he liked My Girls alright even if he wouldn't admit it was psychedelic.
Is there a place like /mu/, but less memes and shitposting? I feel like exploring some alternatives.
No hate of course, /mu/ is still my home.

thank you my man
Macklemore
What do you think about his new song? I think he is playing this, "White people don't belong in rap," meme a little too hard.
White people built rap. Without white people rap would just be some micro genre that nobody cares about, if it was even still around. See Juke/Footwork.
Is Macklemore couscous rap?
>>61969874
nah, it's unconsious rap
as in it's so boring you fall into a coma
Which is better?
Well, both are great, but I'll have to give it to Basho. Visions of the Country is one of his best. Fare Forward Voyagers is pretty great, but Fahey has better albums.
Overall I prefer basho but I gotta say fare foreward voyagers is better
It'd be more fair to compare something like the falconcers arm or something, visions of the country has some severe ups and downs imo
Basho isn't a particularly great singer so FFV
What's this album about? What's the theme, message, etc? Feel like I'm missing something
>>61969325
"Job" is about the monotony of being a serial killer
I'm guessing that "Clay Man" is about mutilation
"Your Property" is maybe about slavery
"Cop" is about being raped, mutilated and beaten by a cop
"Butcher"'s original title was "Whore", I'm sure you can work out what that is about
The other tracks I'm not sure about
go work construction and then listen to the album
>>61969389
Didn't ask about the songs themselves, I can interpret most of them fine. I mean the album as a whole
Hi /m/, Im heavily into Pantera and was wandering if there were any artists like Pantera that i would enjoy
