I wanted to make a thread and thank whatever anon recommended this album to me the other day. I just got around to listening to it and it's by far the most unique and profound piece of music i've ever had the pleasure of sitting through. There hasn't been an album this decade to shake me to my core the way pic related did. You know that feeling you get when you listen to a new album thats original in sound and scope and think "wow, i had no idea music could do that" well that's how I feel about this album. An absolute masterpiece by every definition of the word.

If you want to try out some other great guitar improv, check out Derek Bailey, Taku Sugimoto, Keith Rowe (a bunch more abstract), Fred Frith, Keiji Haino, or Kevin Drumm (only his very early stuff)

So, in some metal thread today, someone was griping about a bunch of bands saying they're just "poser metal" and then was posting morbid angel and stuff. Listened to Morbid Angel for the first time in a while, and while enjoyable, was distinctly lacking what makes me enjoy music. The constant growling, negativity, in your face brutality, it just gets old so quick. If we're being honest, the peak of metal is thrash.

Bro, even slayer is pop metal. Basically anything that isn't insanely technical or sounds like it was recorded on a goddamn moldy potato is considered pop metal.
I love Gojira for instance - elitists call that shit pop metal.
As far as melody goes - it's all in how fruity you want - bullet for my valentine's choruses are super poppy - hell even Master of Puppets and And Justice For All is considered pop metal by elitists.
All in all - douchie group of people.

The Mondo Crescendo is super sunny indie pop/slowcore group with pleasant bouncy melodies
Mahogany is again super sunny but this time more on the shoegaze and electronic end of things, very nice harmonized male and female voices too.
