To be fair, the comics were officially not 100 percent canon from the start. They were obviously trying to cover their asses from Day 1. Can't blame them - the fans of this show are notoriously prickly and BLABLABLABLA.
But JESUS, magic and talking ponies can't be used to dismiss complaints that the basic plot points make no sense.
An example:
The trick is, people, when you ask Ted at the QA sessions at cons about this, like 'Why did you use this plot? Isn't it too unrealistic?' is not to use the R-word.
