Wouldn't it just make it super boring? Offer strong prompts that kind of hint at the bad thing that's gonna happen with their bad choices. You're just playing with yourself at that point and it's kind of sad. If they take the shitty choice or just keep putzing around, then let them. If it means your quest ends early and they enter a fail state, then so be it. The point of a CYOA is the players choosing the actions of the PC and steering the adventure where they see fit.
If your CYOA gets to the point where you have to play it yourself then you have other things to consider besides being dishonest.

For example. DFU was a well prepared spaghetti dinner. The meatballs were just the right size, it contains lots of colour, and it lasted a nice amount of time. Best of all, the layer of cheese was perfect.

Curse Quest is sort of like, a can of cambells vegetable soup.
Its got plenty of colours, but there isn't as much substance in the broth as there could be. When you get into it tastes... Fine. Its sort of nothing new or unique, but its okay.
Sometimes you bite into a carrot or green bean, and here's a burst of flavour. But then your QM(in this case the spoon) disappears for a little while. It's getting kind of sporadic, and it looks like the soup is going to get cold before you can finish it.
