Fuck, this gives me great hope for the movie. It gives us an idea of just how dark and epic they're willing to go. And fuck, this song was dark.

It depends on use. If you're using it as a way to say "Cool!" or for something that isn't at all grand in stature, then yes, it's cringe. If you're talking about an epic or using the word to describe a story that will take place on a grand scale, with elements of fantasy and adventure, then it's appropriate.

>""""""""""""epic""""""""""""
Rehashing part of a classic story that everyone knows isn't epic. Plus, I'd say this scene was a toned down version of the original story, since the death of a child is a lot more dark than a magically-induced end of civilization (the latter isn't realistic enough to be impactful).
Season 5 had far more "epic" episodes. The premiere, finale, and Magic Sheep were far more "dark and epic" than this episode.

Multiple times this episode, I found myself hoping they could find a way to use these kinds of visuals and songs during the actual events of the show. If the movie matches or surpasses this, it'll be great.
>>

You need to pick up Charles Dickens books and start reading more of them. His works makes Poe look like Walt Whitman. There dark, gritty and angst and constantly speak on death. Literal and implied.
>>
>>27361248
I agree that this story retelling was way more tame than the original source work that Charles Dickens wrote, but after all, it's for kids. I sorta miss the 80's, cartoons then would scare the pants off any kid today.
>>
>>27360867
Disney's Christmas carol was much more dark and epic. This is a telletubies compared to them.

People like this really do not fucking get that this is a children's show and what that actually entails do they? Almost no one in their age bracket will know what the hell scrooge is. some of them will have an easier time identifying mcdonalds instead of jesus for all you chrisfags out there.

the show has literally just been reminiscence to show to a general audience again. no one watching mlp has fucking seen ducktales. not the vast majority of them. More children have seen ducktales on gamegrumps than tv.

You think a 9 year old today has seen that?
Hell, the last iteration of a Christmas carol was when, 2009, 11? the majority of people who watch pony on TV, the intended audience, were 3 or 5 years old then; they can't remember that.
While I know their representation somewhat butchers the message of the original work, it at the very least approaches them to it. If they wanted to give them the true spirit and moral of A Christmas Carol, they'd just stream one of the many true to concept movie adaptations of A Christmas Carol.
>>
>>27363632
>You think a 9 year old today has seen that?
Considering they devote the better part of an entire month to Christmas television in the states, they fucking better.
I actually got to see it on television last year. It was butchered to shit though on the 'scary' parts; Marley and Pete had almost no screen time.
The real tragedy is that I haven't seen A Muppet Christmas Carol on in years upon years.

It was on TBS this year, I saw it on while flipping channels and watched it out of nostalgia and I still enjoyed it.

Turner's got A Muppet Christmas Carol AND A Christmas Story? I'll have to remember that.
>>27363713
There are so many cartoon iterations of A Christmas Carol at this point that a kid is probably getting raised on the same one that their parents watched first. As far as adaptations go though, this one is pretty weak; not a bad episode, but it was more pony than Dickens.

Say Goodbye to the Holidays > Pinkie's Present > Seeds of the Past > Luna's Future > Opening and Ending songs (they both pretty much the same)
