Damn OP / artfag you make some great cover photos also I like how you turned shim-sham into the nameless king (or queen in this case)
Progression wise I've just traversed my way through the ithryll dungeon, the jailers though man
I think DS 3 has easily surpassed DS 2 and even though I haven't reached the end yet (probably around the half way point) I like it more than DS 1

Does anyone here have a favourite DS 3 battle, for me I just loved pontiff sulyvahn even though at first it was murder trying to fight his second phase, the atmosphere, music and design really added to the intensity and beauty of the fightstarswirl would make a good ponified pontiff
Finally got around to making this. It was honestly larger then i thought it would be.

Dancer, because the fight actually feels like you're learning dancesteps.
Nameless King gets second place for being such a badaas without ever feeling cheap.
>for me I just loved pontiff sulyvahn
Huh, Sulyvahn was actually the bossbattle I liked the least, outside the two gimmick battles.
One of the few bosses I summoned help for because the endless combo chain felt pretty cheap to me and I assumed thathis clone was invulnerable in the second phase[spoiler/],
>>27144782

>>27150598
I don't mind hard; I beat my head against Dancer and Nameless King for several hours each and I actually enjoyed it because they both felt tough as nails but fair.
Cut to me, already frustrated from dragging my carcass through Irithyll and getting my ass singed from fuckers two blocks over.
I get into the boss room and Sullyvahn spends what felt like a solid minute wailing on me without pause. And when I finally poked him down to around half health, he pulls a fuckingDarklurker.
Just felt cheap to me, so I tagged in help ( I solo'd him on my second playthrough).
>>27144782
I still haven't beaten the final boss, Nameless King, Old Demon King, or Champion Gundyr yet. All the other bosses are down for the count. The Abyss Watchers are probably my favorites so far- beat them first try with only 1 estus flask remaining.
The game is pretty amazing, especially its sense of scale, though I feel like it's slightly less memorable than Bloodborne.
>>27150674
>Dancer
>Hard
Nigga, she was slow as shit with super telegraphed moves and (like basically all the bosses in the game) had fuck all health.
Pontiff was actually difficult, he was hyper aggressive with long combo's that you really needed to learn the endings of to see openings, his second phase was fair because anytime he had the summon up he was significantly less aggressive. He felt on par with a lot of Bloodborne bosses.
After basically every boss before him being some giant monster with a health pool half the size it should have, that had a cooldown so long you could keep hitting them until you ran out of stamina, he was a breath of fresh air.
Fuck the fire witches though, those fuckers had stupid range on their attacks. Winter Yharnam would have been way better if they were a bit more reasonable.
>>27150735
>>Dancer
>>Hard

This health bar issue has been debated for quite a while now what if the first play through is literally 'hold your hand mode' whole new game + is the dark souls 1 boss health bar we all know and love?
>>27150845
>what if the first play through is literally 'hold your hand mode' whole new game + is the dark souls 1 boss health bar we all know and love?
I think part of is nostalgia of playing the earlier games while not before getting gud.
Go back to DaS1 and the bosses die every bit as fast.
Also if anything NG+ is easier than the first playthrough, because you're all decked out and leveleed up. NG+2 and onward is where things are starting to get harder.
>>27150845
It's not just the health bar, Pontiff made the low health bar work. It's the super slow bosses with the extremely telegraphed moves in combination with the low health bars.
I want the game to be hard right out the gate, not after two fucking playthroughs. BB managed to do this just fine.
>>27150861
>>27150893
Okay okay fair enough you both make valid points but while we're on topic of things that 'grind my gears' (and before I forget) you know what annoys me (unless you can do it and I'm an idiot or I haven't reached this point yet) you CANNOT upgrade armour.
I mean okay the point of dark souls 3 is to dodge and not rely on armour but what's the point of giving us hundreds of titanite shards... Just to spend on weapons / shields? Especially considering the fact that one error and suffering one blow whether it be from a rat or a super giant boss cuts through you like a hot knife through butter.
FROM listen to me I cannot and should not be expected to wear Snoughs armour for protection I need options!i need fashion

>Getting hit

>>27150951
I did very clearly state at the beginning how I know you need to dodge to survive and make progress but this doesn't answer my question why can't we upgrade armour?also grass crest shield is best shield, the stamina regen man
>>27150932
>>27150951
Shields are actually pretty viable; I beat the nameless King with a Lothric Knight shield.
As for armour, I agree that some of the weaker enemies (hollows, rats, dogs) shouldn't stagger you the way they do, but the point of the game is that you shouldn#t rely on tanking out hits.

Dude, that was the easiest boss in the game.
>>27153182
For me that was Deacons.
It was just a bunch of normal mobs sharing one collective health bar, for the most part.
It was like the Magus and Congregation fight from DS2.
Dark Souls > Dark Souls III = Bloodborne >>>>>>>>> Dark Souls II
Haven't played SotFS or Demon's Souls yet.
Does SotFS give Dark Souls II that classic magic that Dark Souls, Dark Souls III and Bloodborne had?
>>27154260
Deacons were pretty creative, though.
My easiest boss fight was either Vordt or Oceiros. For both of them I just rolled around under their rear ends and hit them until they went down, never even got close to dying. Hardest is definitely the Nameless King. The Twin Princes, Sulyvahn, Aldrich, and oddly enough the Crystal Sage all put up a pretty rough fight too.
So which weapons have you been using? A Fire Broadsword carried me through most of my playthrough, but I've had to switch to a Dark Sword now that I'm near the end. Glad Titanite Slabs aren't so hard to come by in this game.
>>27154260
Only boss i had trouble with was the Nameless King. It was a really satisfying fight.

>>27144782
I got to the second bonfire in that lovely snow covered gothic city, found out I'd missed out on the thorn armor and fucked up several other things, then restarted.
That thorn armor is god tier, holy fuck. The only problem is the low poison/frost/curse resistance, but poison is a joke, frost is uncommon, and cure is manageable. Totally worth it, watching an invader panic as i roll into him as he tries to estus, it's the best. Cloranthy, grass crest, and the milkring are fantastic too. Aggressive rolling is so much fun.
Any suggestions for a small/medium sized weapon with bleed and good scaling with dex and/or strength?

This game has the same difficulty as the Classic Mega Man games.
The challenge isn't the gameplay, it's your mindset when playing.

It's badly forecast for sure. If it were Bloodborne the docile hollows and cage-carrier would be in a more obvious place.
But then if it were Bloodborne the game would be a lot more refined. I've lost count of the amount of enemies who just snap to optimal attack positions on the fly or have infinite stamina. 3-4 large attack patterns are fine like with the pontiff knights, but the cathedral knights pulling the same shit with STR weapons and damage pulling DEX-speed attacks is absolute horseshit. A good chunk of the game just seems like Miyamoto wanted to stab people who've been playing since DeS or DaS1 in the dick on their first playthrough at the cost of the overall quality.
>>27162561
It's strange to get back into it again. Played DeS, DS1, skipped 2 and BB(mainly because I didn't like the idea of guns being effective in Eldritch settings) and got back into 3.
From what I can collect from Vaati and other sources, 2 was pretty much a standalone Souls like BB and 3 is the real continuation of DS.
The more I PvP the more disappointed I get. Magic is garbage, you trade hits with people literally 50% of the time, and even if you roll out of their first swing, the second, farther one hits you. No git gud memes please, what the fuck is this shit
Fluttershy petting Rudy pic when?
>>27162586
As great as DS3 is, I think I prefer Bloodborne's quality-over-quantity approach. The rally system makes the game a lot less frustrating, as well.
>>27162994
Rally was a bad mechanic in my opinion. It just encouraged R1 spam, which exists in DS3 too, but at least it doesn't heal you.
>>27163000
It encouraged aggression, but you still had to think out when and how to attack- mind distances, speed, and the number of nearby enemies. And rally helped get rid of the problem of tiny hits accumulating over time. In Dark Souls, I often end up having to waste estus flasks because I didn't notice an archer or didn't quite dodge a lunging enemy. Bloodborne provides a less costly solution as long as you can react quickly enough.
>>27162994
>>27163000
>>27163081
Don't forget that the Pontiff's Left Eye ring lets you gain health on successive hits.
So rally can, in a sense, be back if you wish it to be.
>>27162994
This
DaS3 is alright, but compared to BB it falls horrendously short in almost every regard. I can see in a few weeks the online activity picking up again, DaS3 being a disappointment seems to be a fairly common consensus.
>>27163332
That ring is useless you only get the health back on the fourth successive hit. So you either need a spammy one handed weapon or duel wield something fast.
>>27163332
Can't make use of that one much. Either the enemies die before I get in enough hits, or they're too powerful to risk spamming into.
>>27163383
>reach second phase
>boss screams "OCELOTTE"

Deepest lore.
>>27163400
It's still a solid addition to the series. I think the game designers made a point of demonstrating how to do boss fights with multiple opponents right after all the complaints Dark Souls 2 got for it.
>>27150488
Should have given it to the crow instead.
>>27163993
But most the multiple boss fights outside of Sulyvahn were terrible
>>27159440
I don't know, I think the sword stabbing as marriage is cute in a Dark Souls kinda way. People resurrect in this universe, and killing each other like that is a sort of ceremony showing you are not afraid to die because that other person and your commitment to them will keep you coming back sane instead of hollow.

>all these people going 'well while DS 3 is okay it's not BB'
I fucking swear if I hear another post like this...
Okay BloodBorne / PS4 fags please understand that the dark souls series cannot be played at your speed with your combat system, this is traditional sword vs shield, not guns and trick weapons
Secondly Miyazaki and his programmers put blood, sweat and tears TRYING to make DS 3 combat like BloodBorne so try to please at least sound grateful no it's not fucking BloodBorne but as a PC fag who's waited over a year and a half for a new Dark souls game this game is honestly great compared to its predecessors and honestly deserves the good ratings it got and compliments fellow players and people in general give it.
>>27164658
Well if you're coming straight from DaS2 I can see how DaS3 would seem like a really good game, but man, Bloodborne was a REALLY good game.
>>27164688
Bloodborne was the weakest game of the lot for me. The combat was pretty good, although I prefer the tactical approach of Souls games over the reactive gameplay in this game. The lore and environment just seemed boring. Plus the lack of weapons and armor made fashion practically non-existent.
>>27164750
>lack of weapons
You have about 23 extremely fleshed out weapons with a huge moveset list, for the most part all of those movesets completely unique from all the others in the game. Sure though, DaS's 100 weapons with only 7 actual movesets is way better though.
>The lore and environment just seemed boring
Awww hell naw, you did not just go there.
>>27164786
with weapon arts and boss weapons, there are at least 40-50 unique movesets in DS3.
Bloodborne is 93% Gray, so the environments are boring. Lore is I guess personal preference, I like high fantasy and the struggle of men against both gods and the decline of the world over a plague of beasts and searching for the secrets of divinity in the blood of eldritch demons..
>>27165025
>Bloodborne is 93% Gray
I'd argue that DaS3 has a fuckton of gray as well, and plenty of claustrophobic corridors or huge open area's with basically nothing in them.
I guess it comes down to preference and I got a little too heated originally. Personally I found DaS3 an absolute chore to complete, and forcing myself through a second play through for the hollow lord ending is miserable and reminds me that I could just do another run through of BB, obviously you don't feel the same though and you have your own reasons for that.
Though can we at least agree that no matter what, both games are infinitely superior to the abortion that was DaS2?
>>27165065
Absolutely.
DaS2 wasn't a BAD game, but if all you can say about something is that it wasn't bad, then it doesn't belong in the same group as the rest of the Soulsborne games.
>tfw I'm retarded and spent 10 minutes wacking Yhorm with a claymore

Nigga, I spent a good ten minutes smacking ancient wyverns crotch with a claymore because I didn't realize you were supposed to just run past him and eventually do a plunging attack on his head, I think I have you beat in terms of retardation.
>>27165065
Honestly the thing BB was missing was splashes of color. I know the theme didn't allow for to much of that, but I think the game's environments could have been a good bit more interesting with just a little more color to them.
>mfw exploring the demon ruins andyou find the corpse of the spider fire keeper
That killed me, that was my favorite covenant
>>27165311
Honestly I loved the massive cityscape and how just about every area connected to it somehow, it made Yharnam feel like an actual city. Sure it was a bit on the grey side to keep with the Victorian theme but that actual layout and art was fantastic.
>Demon ruins
Nigga, that shit wasn't sadNow realizing you were in Anor Londo the whole time, that shit hit hard
>>27165343
Miyazaki is great with that, he always puts some much thought into the areas. Thats why DaS2 felt so lacking imo, nothing really made sense spatially.
Oh yea, that shit was great. That giddy feeling when you get to the turning wheel, you push it to see the vast staircase to the cathedral
>>27165278
Wyvern's health bar is pretty reasonable if you are hitting it in the tail. That's how I killed him on 2nd playthrough and it made the fight a good bit more fun.

>>27165956
There's a lot of weapons I haven't tried yet because my first run is always a strength build.
But I'm really smitten with the herald armor set.

Good man. Your second, third, fourth, and even your 500th run should all follow suit.
STR or gtfo. You want variety, do strength and pick one of the magics to complement it. But never, ever, under any circumstances, should you level up fucking DEX.

A reenactment of 3's intro. Anypony rising from the stone grave much like the Unkindled, ages long dust/ash seeping off their bodies as they wonder where they are.
BB's themes clashed too much for them to be enjoyable to me.
An Eldritch setting where you can actually fight anything tougher than a Ghoul or a Vampire just seems disrespectful to the source material.
If anyone here that has played the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game(not D20) should know what I'm talking about.
>>27170731
Yeah, being able to kill Cthulhu or any similar elder gods kinda makes them pointless and takes away their biggest strength: The fear, chaos and madness they invoke in the hearts of the mortals.
>>27170842
Chaosium had a cool solution to this.
The moment Cthulhu shows up and you inevitably fail the sanity roll, you lose 1d100 sanity points and you go fucking bonkers instantly.
If you succeed? No worries, every combat round 1-3 players are automatically scooped up and eaten with no saving rolls.
So what if you by some miracle manage to lower his HP to 0?
Oh don't worry, he regenerates after 10 minutes with full health.

Tips for the king then:
Bring a shield with high lightning resist. Lothric knight shield is good for this.
Always aim for the dragon's head or neck.
You can parry the King himself.
There's a way to riposte the dragon. I've done it a few times but never figured out how I did it.
>>27181188
I have that shield but I want to pound his face in with my winged axes and my great axe. But maybe I will take a parrying shield with me. Is he easy to parry? Because I'm kinda shit at it.

One thing I'm trying to figure out as I'm playing through it. Is the timeline linear or skewed? Given Lothric is a 'transient land' where all past kingdoms of the Lords of Cinder are converging together.I ask since Gwyndolin and Gwynevere had apparently survived across the multiple cycles and linking of fires, so i guess the Chosen Undead canonically opted out of that optional boss fight.
>>27183168
Time always had been skewed in Lordran Anon, DS3 is no exception to this rule.
Building on the canon ending of DS1, does this mean there should be a new canon% speedrun catagory for the game? All bosses except Gwyndolin and Priscilla?

I think it'd make more sense to say he probably has that form because he was stripped of his deific status and the normal human like features granted by the flames to what otherwise seem to have been beef jerky people back in the age of dragons and arch trees. His siding with that old age itself may have led to him taking on those features somehow.
>>27183758

>>27188393
Oh my friend don't think I would lay such a burden upon you alone, good heavens no.
Consider it merely as an idea since DS 3 is the last in the series we should do our part to bring /mlp/ into it I'm fairly certain if the odd Anon or two sat on the character creation screen creating their waifu / favourite pony or any pony for that matter the amount of content we could generate for this thread would be astronomical. Also yeah a DIY Trixie guide would be a great kick start to this idea I had a go myself creating her pony counterpart, it's a touch more blue then yours while the hair is a tinge lighter, in addition I gave her a bit of dark eye shadow to replicate her slightly dark blue eye lids...
well I would post my guide of it but I'm rather hollow mentally so can't figure out how to contribute efficiently

I swear, a straight sword infused with fire damage is easy mode for 90% of Dark Souls 3.
>>27219831
>"My brother... faithful sword of Lothric's Prince... rise, if you would."
Made me go "oh shit" more than any other part of the game.
>>27221957
That line made my skin crawl a bit. I just fucking adore this boss fight.
>>27221957
>>27221963
I loved when you beat them and he basically said "It's your curse now, fucker"
>>27214058
>>27218883
>>27219251
You guys are missing out on some grade-A memes.
>>27222315
What he says when he kills you is priceless too.
>"This spot marks our grave. But you may rest here too... If you like."
>>27222324
I've already memed plenty with it, Anon.
>>27222342
I probably would have appreciated that line more if I didn't hear it like ten times in fifteen minutes.
Those two picked my teeth in. When I finally beat them it was an insanely clutch moment.
>>27144782
Oh boy it's just slightly better than Fallout 4!
>>27223200
Was gonna buy Fo4, but when I saw the dialogue wheel and the voiced protagonist, I decided I'd vote with my wallet, for whatever that's worth. Those changes are trash as fuck.
>>27223200
If you look at the user scores and not bethesdas probable paid reviews it becomes a bit more than just slightly
>>27223425
I enjoy Fallout 4, but it is mediocre compared to New Vegas (arguably the best one.)
>>27223444
I think, I'm the only one who prefers Fallout 3 over Vegas.
The Fallout 3 map just felt more filled out to me, whereas Vegas' overworld felt pretty empty.
>>27217868
I beat the Gaping Dragon first try without a summoned phantom or an NPC to help.
>>27224698
Comparing your boss fight to pontiff is like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Anyway I'm off to work so hopefully we'll be okay even though we're reaching the 500 markI hope based Auxillery artfag doesn't forget my tsundere gundyr request, it just struck me in a moment of genius that and it would make a top cute mare boss
Any Soul fags hyped for today's episode maybe because Trixies returning we should have that Twilight and Trixie sorcerer pic for the OP or based OP artist could bossify her idk Crystal sage or Aldritch??? (I like his art style since it's the only artfag who draws EqG's)
>>27221245
I'm not going to sploil this whole shit, so, the ones that still have yet to get to the cathedral, stop reading right now, orgit gud
I don't find it that far fetched, really.
>"The Queen of Lothric, married to the former King Oceiros, was initially revered as a goddess of fertility and bounty. After giving birth to Ocelotte, her youngest, she quietly disappeared."
That's DS3 hidden blessing.
And in DS1 "Holy water from Goddess Gwynevere. Fully restore HP and undo irregularities.
The Goddess of Sunlight Gwynevere, daughter of the great Lord of Sunlight Gwyn, is cherished by all as the symbol of bounty and fertility."
So it basically means that Gwynevere IS the queen of lothric, mother of lorian, lothric and ocelotte. She goes mad after the death of ocelotte, and becomes Rosaria 'mother of rebirth'. And there's some kind of link with Aldritch, which is why she's found in the cathedral. Maybe she asked aldritch if there was a way to resurrect Ocelotte? And those worm things we kill are the only fruits of those experiments? Maybe Aldritch had to experiment on HER, which is why she's not 'herself' anymore.
And that's also why Leonhard keeps talking about doing it for the goddess, and that's why he ends up in front of Gwynevere's throne, to try and get his real goddess back.
But I'm not a lorefag, let's wait for some spoonfeeding from vaati or some shit.
We won't know for sure, but I don't think it's a stretch, AT ALL.
>>27225872
Hmm, seems like a connection indeed, but Gwynevere is known to have left Anor Londo with Flame God Flann and somewhat confirmed to have settled down in Drangleic.
Her hooking up with a mortal seems somewhat strange. Maybe Rosaria is supposed to be one of her daughters?
Work finish bump
>>27225017
I've not forgotten, I'm working on it albeit kinda slowly. Been pretty busy.
If I don't finish it before this thread caps you can definitely expect it for next thread.
>>27149655
I really hated the pontiff.
They went too crazy on his move resets, as in that sometimes he just never has to recover and attacks you forever, kinda like champion Gundyr.
What made it even worse for me is that you can cheese him by literally walking around him with a shield raised up, 70% of his attacks will miss you.
>>27155574
Yeah, that fight was easy as hell for me. Went in with 3 estus flasks and I still did it first try.
You shouldn't be able to backstab them.
>>27170017
He's not eloquent enough. I don't see any reason why Hawkeye "the big show" Gough would need to get a -80 on his IQ.
>>27227160
I've seen on /v/ that a lot of people hated the pontiff, but I didn't mind him at all.
Once you realized that his phantom and he would do the same attack if you dodged it once you could easily dodge it again, and if you didn't there was no excuse to get hit twice since you knew what was coming.
The twin princes, however, can go fuck themselves with the largest cactus they can find.
>>27214106
The sword isn't, because the greatsword weapon class is generally pretty disappointing, but the greataxe, ultra greatsword and glaive are all pretty godlike.
>>27227837
Twin princes I actually did second try. I love that teleporting around you thing, I've always wanted a boss that teleports behind you mid-combo.
>>27227114
Aha, appologies my friend I forgot you work and study hard, how could I be so inconsiderate, no consider it just a reminder for myself more than you since I have the memory of a snail and would forget in a minute.
Thank you my friend, you are a strong both as an artist and as a champion of ash.

>>27227838
>The sword isn't
I dunno man I've been getting a lot of use out of it lately, the moveset is just that blend of speed and power that I can really control and the overhead out of roll has saved my life so many fuckin times I can't even count, that and the running attack is my favorite in the whole game, just one quick spin to get a wide range of enemies is really helpful at times
>>27225724
Hmm, I'm having trouble finding a good fit for Trixie.
Currently torn between Crystal Sage, Yellowfinger Heysel and Karla...
>>27228980
Karla could be good I mean it's like Yuria from the first Dark souls but I just feel like after Trixie there would be few characters that could fill the role of 'Crystal sage' maybe Sunset or Moon dancer at the same time however Karla doesn't die so.... karla?Or maybe Orbeck?
>>27229084
>Yuria from the first dark souls
Demon's souls, you mean.
>>27229451
Nope I apparently meant Beatrice but I am a fucking idiot so Yuria / Karla it is!
>>27229498
Beatrice doesn't have any distinguishable personality anyways, when I first saw and talked to Karla I immediately connected her to Yuria.
>>27229545
I actually connected her to both. Mainly Beatrice for the fact she mentions she's a child of the abyss. The last I recall we know of Beatrice is that she walked the abyss back in DS1. I kind of took it that Karla is a bit of a reincarnation of her. Far fetched, but that's what a lot of speculative lore is about.
>>27229824
Is another board, yes. Your point?
>>27226317mmh, I didn't remember this ring.
Who knows, it could be anything really.
Maybe she left Flann? Maybe Flann somehow became Oceiros?
Since spacetime is completely fucked up in this world, who knows how many years passed since DS1? Andrei is still alive, sure; doesn't mean he's 50yo. Seeing how much the world changed, I'd say MANY years passed. Enough to see kingdoms get built and destroyed.
And I don't think we can use the term 'mortal' to talk about ANYONE from the dark soulsverse.
And I don't think you can compare Aldrich to some random 'human' like Andrei. You don't become a god eating blob by simply eating people. We don't even know if Aldrich was humanoid at some point, we just know that he was a 'priest'. Also, the skull you place on his throne is just FUCKIN HUGE. Not 'human' sized.
Also, the cathedral of the deep's doors are huge. Yes, it's a cathedral, yes, maybe it's simply for the giants. Or maybe it was for him, too.
Then again, maybe he became bigger after eating so much?
>>27175765
Unless you didn't have the original DS2, Scholar is a waste of money. It's literally just a worse version of DS2 with the DLC.
>>27197581
Tumblr is that troll girl from Homestuck?
>>27223444
Yeah NV is easily the best of the 3D Fallouts.
