Funnily, it was made of the remnants of ponygoons, itself being a place made of the fans of MLP from the Something Awful forum.
The place was actually one of the earliest place to get into pony along with us, before even the /b/ flooding, but I think somewhere in April 2011 the attention the MLP thread got was too bothering for the mods so they banned it, and the regulars made ponygoons, who turned into roundstable.
Incidentally, I keep hearing about how SomethingAwful itself turned SJW hard. Not sure if its that surprising that a website dedicated to mocking the rest of the world was hypocritical as hell.
