Luna in the books seems to basically be Equestrias ambassador to non pony species. They respect her so much that the word that she needed help was enough for dragons to descend upon Ponyville and help them fight a monster.

MLP FiM #38 (The CMC plus Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon and Snips & Snails) sold 16,173 comics, gaining 414 sales compared to December’s sales.
MLP FF #24 (Rarity and Gilda’s story with Jay Fosgitt’s art) sold 12,623 comics, losing 845 sales compared to December’s sales.
For nobody’s surprise, Jay Fosgitt’s comic sold very poorly despite the potential of the story itself.
