Okay, so we know that cutie marks are about what makes a pony special: it's what they're talented at, passionate about, and so on.
From what I've seen in the show, the marks are pretty esoteric, or they're incredibly general, i.e. things that will never go out of style or fade with time.
My question is: where are the ponies whose marks correspond with talents or passions that are no longer popular or needed? Is there a pony with an 8-track player on their ass working a soul-crushing job in middle-management? Is there another pony with a disco ball somewhere, dressing up in their favorite suit and crying themselves to sleep at night?
Hell, imagine if they actually had the Internet in Equestria. What if some unfortunate colt or filly got their cutie mark in being really good at an MMO that died out a year after they got it? What would happen to them then?
I want to know what that hourglass talent is that half the population has. Is their talent waiting for a real talent?
