I actually think the coal song gets a bad rap because it's firstly done by a character never seen in the fucking show, and secondly done by Vincent Tong, who's had his fair share of drama both as Brad and in real life.
Like musically, it's a good song, mostly because Ingram is some sort of musical savant. Singing's a bit iffy, but I almost think that's because in animation, everyone is just used to women performing for young boys. And I guess it's basically the one song that really does have fuck all to do with the show, or even ponies full stop.
I agree it's the worst song, but it's not as bad as people make out.

Piano is versatile so that's good, and your singing is better than mine.
As for me I play guitar and am currently in the possession of an acoustic with direct input and a cheap violin. I also have a friend with a double bass, banjo and (if he still has it) a cello who would be happy to let me commandeer them for a recording session.

I am not even kidding when I say that a lot of these songs are the best renditions of the originals I've ever heard. Days Gone By is obviously the best track, but everything except for the coal song is really great.
Seriously, that little instrumental bit between the first two verses of Silent Night sends chills down my spine, it's so good.

It should have been Diamond Tiara's song. Chantal Strand's singing voice is godly, and the idea of getting coal "last year" fits with her having been just recently reformed. Giving it to Tong was the worst decision of the entire production.
