Well I'm starting to see things in a newer light at the moment. I'd always wondered where all this politically correct stuff cropped up from and just why some of the people around me were so enamoured with self censure. I remember casually bringing up 4chan in conversation once with some friends, and a couple of them almost went into hysterics trying to tell me never to go there and that everyone here wants to kill minorities like the Nazis and that they're all for restricting women's rights. I know for a fact that they both have blogs and accounts on tumblr.

Wrong, the main reason why people don't like Alicorn Twilight is because of the narrative; how that particular story developed. The story itself being told was sloppy and didn't make a whole lot of sense in the context of the show. It didn't give us much of a reason to believe or care about why Twilight became an alicorn. I guarantee you if MMC was more well thought out, people would be much more accepting of the end result. Just because it was inspired by "muh toy sales" doesn't mean that "toy sales" are to blame.
