I think the only reason the writers didnt put it in was that if weapons were involved, they are almost cornered into having to add blood or gore into this, which although i would like and it makes more sense, the suits up high would can the episode almost immediately anyway.

Calling it now. Starlight is meant to be Twilight's replacement for friendship map missions while Twilight takes on a more Celestia mentor role.
Starlight's inclusion brings back the original harmony of the cast, two ponies from each tribe and considering Twilight is almost never called by the map, it's a simple way to have a Twilight role for a pony that can't really fulfill the role anymore due to being a deus ex machina

When you think about it, since she was motivated by anger and a feeling of abandonment, she wouldn't do the rational thing of changing that.
