I want him to be happy, have a productive life, and have lots of friends. Maybe be larger and able to easily control his draconic greed.
You could even make it so that Celestia never got his egg and he's all grown up with a happy family. It doesn't make Twilight out to be a bad caretaker for him as much, but it would still cause her some moral dilemma.

Upon closer inspection, it appears to be this edgy picture of Spike burning some love letter or something addressed to Twilight. So he's probably burning it because he's a strong independent dragon that don't need no mare.
