Crusaders getting their marks today in a 9/10 episode would be beyond ideal. 5th year anniversary, Hiro posted twice on /mlp/ and it'd finish an arc that's been spanning 5 years.
That said, I don't think it'd really work trying to get them all their marks in the same episode. Some of it will feel a bit rushed if that's the case, which isnt the payoff I'm looking for

Now any future CMC episode will deal with them having to find their way as young adults.

It's an 8/10 special episode extravaganza for me.
The songs, all of them, were enjoyable as heck, and the whole episode ending was one big nostalgia trip that really fit with the anniversary. It was lively and it was enjoyable. It was wonderful.
The cons would include Tiara's reform was too rushed, and her mother's rushed characterization. I feel as if this episode would've benefited further if they helped more than just Pip Squeak.

It wrapped up shit we had going since season one, gave character development to DT who has also been around since s1.
While the cutie marks may not be great aesthetically it does work in a meta way, with their older sisters going out and solving friendship issues and helping ponies come together, while the younger helps ponies find themselves so that those ponies can find friendship.
tl;dr Like MMC but if we had legitimate 5 seasons of build up so the transition isn't as jarring thanks to the fact they had been looking for the solution since the first season.

And really it's not that they'll never be any more than the CMC, it's that they themselves don't want to STOP being the CMC. Their cutie marks are a symbol of their friendship as much as it's about them helping others find their cutie marks/true calling.

So all the CMC stuff aside, the lesson in this episode is pretty good too.
Mothers like Diamond Tiaras exist in real life, trying to live their failed life again vicariously through their children, demanding absolute perfection from them.
You know the types, mothers that force their daughters to become cheerleaders, and then try to get in each photo with her saying 'we could be twins!'
So yeah, it's a good lesson to learn that you can stand up to those people, and that their teachings of you being superior are just a mechanism that drives you away from other people and puts your life in their hands.

This was a great episode...up until the end. DT solving the problem with her father's money proved that she was still a more competent and capable politician than Cucksqueak.
He was as ineffectual as Obama when it came to bringing about hope/change. Cuck won solely on emotions rather than his ability to overcome the pragmatic realities of the job. He didn't even win it himself. It was handed to him by the CMC, thereby proving he was too much of a follower to be a true leader.
The CMC cutie marks were also absolute garbage. No scooter? No page with notes on it? No carpentry themed apple mark? Into the trash they go.
All in all, the episode should've been about DT learning about her cutie mark and the meaning of friendship so that she could once again ascend to the position of President after finally coming into her own as an individual.
Instead, it was a whole lot of hype and a whole lot of letdown.

I'm actually really happy they share a cutie mark design. I wanted them to all get their marks at the same time and for them to be similar in a way. I was thinking along the lines of the CMC emblem since they'd been good at helping other ponies with their talents, but what they got was nice too. I would have liked a little more color variation for the trio though. Blooms apple being red, scoots wing being purple or orange, Sweeties star being white or even blue like her sisters three diamonds. Would have made the differences stick out a little more but kept the similar design.
Also they actually redeemed Diamond Tiara. She was the single fucking pony I could not stand and they went and made her mom a bitch and gave Tiara a heart. It's like a small part of me is almost annoyed that I don't hate her any more. (Not really, but still.)
Holy fuck I just realized. Maybe this is the reason, or one of the reasons, for that kind of long hiatus? They wanted the episode of the CMC getting their cutiemarks to fall on the five year anniversary. If that's so then I don't mind. What a treat for five years of lovable pastel horses. Holy fucking shit, as a total cmc fag I don't think its possible for me to not rate it as my absolute favorite episode. Between Silver Spoon saying fuck you to DT (something i predicted like 2 or 3 years ago) and DT herself coming around, that's some top notch shit. The return of Pipsqueak was awesome. Not to mention them actually getting their cutie marks.

The design of cutie marks could be better, but well, I guess we'll get used to them.
The only thing that I'm worried now are the implications of this ep for Diamond Tiara character. The meanie duo was bringing some important dynamics to CMC eps and now they will have to find some way to replace it. It's a bit of a bummer, as DT+SS duo was working pretty nice. I loved how the campaign against DT worked out though.
I also think it was a great choice to make this episode a musical.
Overall, I can't decide between 9 and 10/10.

The inner symbols are exactly the ones you listed: Sweetie sings and the episode was a musical, Scoot is a stuntmare even if she can't fly and she actually flew well enough to lift Pip up onto the big horseshoe, and BUY SOME APPULS.
The visual design clashes a bit, but they earned those marks and the symbols within them. The mark is the shield of helping others -- and the inner symbol is the tool they're most likely to use along the way.

The "device" on those shields is the individual part- Sweetie's note, Bloom's apple, Scootaloo's lightning-on-wing. I get the feeling that if they timeskipped, we'd find those three helping others find their own cutie marks full-time, having understood very intimately how badly even an adult can misunderstand things when getting one (or using one's gifts for evil and misery like DT did) and how to help fix the issue.
