***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

It'll be fragile as hell since everything including the joints are brittle clear plastic. If you bend anything the wrong way, it'll probably snap.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Is it a property of the clear plastic to be brittle? I've never had problems with clear parts (which admittedly, have never been joints on my kits)

The clear plastic that bandai uses is considerably less forgiving when it comes to any amount of stress being applied to it; they don't really bend at all and would rather snap than give.

if you used gloss black paint then yes, flat topcoat will dull the color down A LOT, better get a mere clear type to avoid losing that shine

as for the Crossbone... could it ever get a 2.0 relase? it is pretty dated

perhaps i should let it town down since the artwork seems to imply its primarily grey, but i'm already off accuracy buy leaving the faceplate gunmetal.

I doubt the Crossbones will get any MG love anytime soon. but i think only the FC has issues just due to his huge weapons. but does the FC come with the chest clamps for the cloak even though it doesnt come with one? might get that to do a X3 eventually.
>>
>>13896614
You really need to work on your weathering/battle damage technique. That model looks awful. Maybe next time just avoid trying to do those things and just make a straight build.
>>
>>13896765
You CAN make multiple cuts, you know. Separate the part from the runner with enough sprue that you can cut it down again with the nippers. Then shave it down even closer with an xacto knife, and sand down the rest.

Your analogy sucks.
>>
>>13897003
would you preshade over a decal

NO??????????

Then don't line over it either
>>
>>13897003
Panel lines are supposed to be sort of a combination of shadow in recessed area and occasionally dirt/grime buildup discoloring them.

Either way a decal is supposed to represent a marking of some sort on the surface, which wouldn't magically erased the panel line on the actual object.
>>
>>13896813

I'll be sure to try that next time, thank you.

>>13896907
Really depends.

Do decals cross panel lines? If not, the sequence doesn't matter.

Do you want them to look like something pasted on top of the surface like a giant sticker? Then panel lines before decals.

Do you want them to look painted long time ago, long enough for the dirt to accumulate? Then decals, then clear coat, then panel lines.

When I did the Cold Districts GM, it had these nasty front seams that were super obvious (apparently all the 0080 GMs are like that). I ended up seam welding, then sanding, then filling whatever gap left with a bit of Tamiya white putty just for good measure, and sanding some more. Pretty good results with a bit of care and patience.

The small red numbers were from Tamiya's 1/35 M3 Grant, the large red numbers and the stars are from ICM's 1/72 I-16 Type 28.

Sprue cutters are a must but if you're careful you could use any hobby knife. X-Actos are preferred because they're easier to use and you can replace the blades easily.

Although, my father built the majority of his models using a box cutter, but he's also been in the hobby since the 1970s and so I wouldn't recommend it.

You should use decal setter regardless. Decals are supposed to represent markings that are usually painted/stenciled on. Same with clear coat for protection. Whether or not you want to wash the panel line is up to you.

Good God, yes.

>>13899112
Foreigner here as well, and I managed to get an X-Acto knife, but it was labeled as a hobby knife in the store. It looks exactly like this and the blades are switchable.
I can't speak for the type of blade, since the guide seems to imply that with the X-Acto knife there's only an incline on one side, and the other side of the blade is flat. My blades have inclines on both sides and I haven't been to the store to find out if they have the ones described in the guide. I have to be careful though, as gouging is pretty easy if I'm not focused and the nub is on a tricky area (doesn't usually happen though, and sanding + painting kind of helps hide it).

To my understanding tariff for pens and such is 2,7% or 3,7% + VAT. I don't know how it goes in Britain, but when importing stuff to Finland, you may have to pay possible tariff + VAT if goods' value is over 22€ (excluding postage). If it's under that, customs let the package through without paying. If it's over 150€, you will pay VAT + possible tariff.
So take the sum of your order (goods + postage), calculate 2,7% or 3,7% and whatever your VAT is onto it and you have your final price.

That's my flat, I think it's about what I expected from the kit, which means it's not great, but if you like the design you don't have many options. It's more poseable than I imagined, but maybe not in the same way as most of the kits. The surface detail is pretty good, but the colors are pretty neon, and you'd need to paint the triangles on the back.

The kit itself should retail for about 18 dollars, 15 once the discounts at places like HLJ and Hobby Search kick in, so unless that's with EMS shipping it's a ripoff.

That must have been either a resin kit or a pre-HGUC plastic version, they don't really remake those. Though they might make a new one at some point. Possibly.

Hello again, /m/. So I'm having a bit of a dilemma on wiring some things. I'd like to add in an LED into my old NG 1/100 freedom. However, with its poly cap joints and the amount of flexibility it has in the knee area, I'm worried that the wires will break. Any recommendations on how to run the wires through the knee area? I'm also considering just going with a fiber optic threading, as its a lot more flexible, but I don't want to lose too much maneuverability. If nothing else, I'll consider just putting it in a diorama setup after some tlc.

Pic is ventral area of the left leg.

The prongs will get clipped once I get a better idea on this. I just placed it there to have an idea of what I'm attempting to do.

oddly enough, I have twist ties sitting around that might work. The other question is how to run the wire. Theres a lot of space in the sides, but when the knee flexes, it compresses the wire. I can only run one wire through the center of the knee, but its the second wire that I'm scratching my head on. I'm also limited on the thinner wire, so I need to be careful.

They require some paint and have a few rough seams. Standard Kotobukiya stuff. If you are used to gunpla, these will take a bit more work. However the engineering and plastic quality is significantly better than older Koto kits, almost Bandai quality, so there's that.

Go look them up on Dalong, you can see how they look out of box, which is a big help. You also get size comparisons with gunpla. The nonscale kits are definitely better looking out of the box, and you should go for those if you plan to simply snap build. If you want to put in the work, the 1/144s are fine.
