***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

Can you believe until this last week I've been almost plastic-crack free for 6 months? Once these two are done I'm doing the resin GP00 conversion, which I'm FINALLY ordering next week.

The ModelLegend one? The guy is the one who took the designs and references of it from materials like the Master Archive and made it in to RG conversion form. There's some love in that shit. This. These are plastic kits made so 10 year olds can build them. There's virtually no increase in difficulty through kits and grades unless you have giant ham hands (with the exception of a few outlying cases). More complex kits just take more time.

Oh, really?
Thats good to hear i guess! I'm just afraid of messing up.
Maybe MG is too much for me though?
>>
>>13891556
I started with an MG, shit's fine. If you're petrified of messing up start with an HG just so you don't convince yourself you're doing something wrong and muck it up. Get the right tools, heed advice, you'll be golden.
>>
>>13891556
I'd start with some HG's to familiarize yourself with proper building and cleanup techniques. An MG is fine to start with, but you'll be kicking yourself if you mess up on something you could have prevented by having a bit more experience.

Basically, everything's got electrons, and the stuff on the negative side of the battery has way more electrons than the positive side, so when you connect both the electrons start flowing from the negative side to the positive side, and you form a circuit
When you put an LED in the circuit (with the pins going to the proper polarity, as in, the shorter one going to the negative end of the battery) the current flows through it and activates the magic in the LED which allows it to shine brightly
However, for the safety of your precious LEDs, it's recommended to put in a small resistor (~220 Ohm for a 5V battery) somewhere in the circuit (Resistors have no polarities so you can connect them however you want and are basically like a wire, except as their name indicates they offer resistance to the flow of electrons) so that they don't end up burning from an excess of current
The last thing is adding a little push/slide switch to turn the circuit on/off, this can go anywhere since the only thing it does is connect and disconnect a section of the circuit through the mechanism inside
Note that all of these components go in series, as in, connected like a string, not in parallel. Unless you wish to do a more complex project with various switches and/or other components in which case you're on your own

Here again,
I don't think dioramas would be a great place to start even if it's just a simple base. Personally the thing I enjoy most out of gunpla is the fact that they're very dynamic especially in terms of posing, fixing something in place even with a beautiful backdrop doesn't particularly appeal to me and I'm certain this is true for at least some other people.

We might be able to use an idea similar to reddit's builds where they take a common/cheap kit and customize it; maybe a GM variant or a zaku.

As for the prize, I was thinking of just buying a kit or kits that would add up to ~$20 USD with like a $10 shipping limit or something from a site of the winner's choice (It has to be in stock)

now you faggots give me some input
>>
>>13892258
If we do it like leddit we should not be as restrictive. Either a specific colour scheme, or a specific kit. Not both. And the colour scheme shouldn't be as fugly as what they wanted.

It could work if you give it a cape just like Craft and keep it on, never to let anyone see the color scheme under it.
Either that or take less saturated colors. Take a paler green and dark blue, so the colors don't overload the eye. On your lineart, everything pops out, whereas on the concept art, the pink and yellow are more clearly the accent colors.

Get rid of the red on the chest fins, change the top of the head to be black. Make a part of the foot white. Make a custom piece to go on the toe to be painted green.

That should give it a better sense of balance. Also I'd remove the white on the front skirts. Maybe just remove the front skirts outright honestly.

TG1 is absolutely not worth it, the real one is super cheap as is. All DM has going for it are the extra weapons.

TG2 is in a gray zone since while it's objectively worse than the Bandai version articulation-wise, it's still a fairly close copy and the official one is way too pricey anyways.

DM's TG3 is absolute shit compared to the Bandai one, and it's still funny trying to see people defending what is literally the 1/100 TG3 stapled onto the MG TG frame.

the DM Strike is great
save for the hands which are extremely fragile
>>
>>13892386
They've gotten a lot better over time. Freedom and the Tallgeese 1-3 were sort of meh, but their Strike was impressive. Their Akatsuki was sort of mediocre, since it was really just the 1/100 Akatsuki's backpack stapled onto their MG Strike vRM, but competent enough. Their Destiny isn't quite the level of the Metal Build, but it's close enough and still miles better looking than the MG. Who knows with their Unicorn, but at this point they've gotten good enough I'm willing to bet it'll be fine.

Two warnings though:
1. As much as people praise their plastic quality, it's still not Bandai level. Fitting's super tight too. If you intend to paint the things, don't assemble it before hand.

2. They really, really, REALLY fucking love tron line. If you're a fan of that then you'll love their decal set-ups, but if you're not then god damn it looks silly.

get an action base / tamashii stage / wire coat hanger

read the guide

get better lighting

point the feet outwards, >< kawaii feet positions doesnt really look good with a lot of robot models.

go stand up and pull the pose you want your gunpla to do, now take note of the way you look and apply it to your poses for a more natural feel / look

and probably last but not least, dont get discouraged by the fuckers in these threads. nobody is an expert the first time they do something. everything takes practice, patience and perseverance to be good at.

Going to paint for the first time soon. I can't afford an airbrush though, so I'll be using acryllic paints with a normal brush.

Anything I should know that's not in the guide?

Also, does anyone like to pretend their gunpla comes to life when they're not watching, like in toy story? What do you think they talk about?
>>
>>13893676
Make sure you press your brush against the side of the dish or whatever you're keeping your paint in several times to keep excess paint off of the brush, you don't want large buildups of paint in drops because too much was on the brush when you touched the part.

Keep in mind that paint is still going to follow gravity, if you see a paint drop moving around on the part be sure to try to move the part around to disperse it evenly on the surface.
>>
>>13893676
Use spray can then
Brush painting looks like shit

There is a pretty good reason people have been using paintbrushes for the centuries: they work great.
>>
>>13893601
I very generally took inspiration for things by popping in game and looking at my Versus (that's where the weapons came from). The Versus is very round though, so the arms and legs do look much more Formula/Urban-esque.

I knew that at my level, I couldn't fully recreate one of the mechs specifically, so instead I decided to try to capture the general spirit of them, aesthetically.

Is there a kit you regret getting? Something you thought looked great but then you got it and the engineering was shit, or you simply couldn't get into it, and now it's in your backlog and you're pretty sure it'll be there forever unless you can scrap it for parts?

My pick.
