What is the most underused weapon in mecha?
I'd say the bow. Not even medieval fantasy shows like Galient or Dunbine have robots using them.
After bows maybe spears and pikes or halberds?

Shotguns are probably the least represented form of modern firearm in Mecha media outside of video games(where they tend to show up a bit more often for gameplay variety reasons), Flamethrowers(at least in Real Robot series), and non Gatling style large Machine Guns are also pretty rare, and pistols and SMGs aren't exactly common either

FSS is an exception though since most of its mecha carry medieval weapons.
When it comes to Nagano designs though, I have NEVER seen any other mecha carry a motherfucking anchor as its primary weapon.

Beam Flags show up multiple times in Late UC, albeit not as weapons(although they could probably be used as one), staves on the other hand are indeed a fair bit rarer, at least ones that don't become a spear, scythe, or other form of polearm
