He also has a metal katana, are the writers going to have him end up learning the yamato damashii of his samurai blood and he ends up switching it to be his main for alot of katana bullshit?

It took him the entirety of season 1 to figure out what a katana is good for.
Until then he kept using it like a combination crowbar-spear thing because "well it's thin and sharp, I guess I just shove it between the armor? Fuck I wish I had a hammer instead."

Katanas aren't made to cut through solid metal plates, as opposed to hammers that are made for caving them in

While various swords through history have been engineered to permit (or even focus on) thrusting tactics, the katana sure as hell wasn't one of them. You'll wreck the blade trying to shove it into things tip first.

He's a simple guy. He dislikes using the sword through most of the series because it's "hard to use" and he favors big smashing weapons instead. He only used it to beat the final guy because it was the only weapon left, and he only figured out the correct way to use it after upping his sync ratio with Barbatos to dangerous levels.
Also, the big wrench has a grinder/chainsaw inside the "mouth".
