Orb's first episode was pretty good, the Something Search People team seem like fun characters so far and Maga Basser was kind of cool, though giant bird monsters always end up looking a little derpy in combat trying to smack things with their wings. Ultraman Towards the Future: Aired in syndication, got a toyline, comic book series and SNES game
Ultraman Tiga: Aired on Fox kids block, got subbed DVD release and comics.
Ultraman Dyna: Ran with English subs in Hawaii and local LA station.
Not to mention all the stuff Tsubaraya had prepared but never took off, like a Hollywood movie, dubs for Ultraman Kids and Zearth, and a series shot in LA. (Before some dumbass gets wise, none of the above was through Chaiyo)
Ultraman is not nearly as recognizable as Godzilla or power Rangers but it has enjoyed a minuscule niche in US pop culture since it was first aired. Even when there were no shows running, you could see Ultraman referenced in comics, on shows like MxC and there was even a Father of Ultra on the set of Pee-Wee's Playhouse. The idea that it's some ignored franchise compared to something like Kamen Rider is absurd.

You do have your point about Nexus, Ultraseven X, and even Mebius even though you didn't mention it. Max not so much because that was largely the work of one person and it took him YEARS to get into the final stretch of episodes.
I must say this too. Crabsticks are not substitutes for actual subtitles. Otherwise, every show ever would technically be subtitled. Malaysian English is also pretty godawful and I would not recommend it unless you want an auditory crabstick experience.

When you have a handful of series that have no subs whatsoever, and crabstick shit never getting scrubbed or being properly translated, it's pretty ignored. Hell, even getting the crabsticks Taro or Ace was a pain in the ass at one point after megaupload went down since no body really uploaded it again.
There was nothing for Ginga S, a 2014 series, until an individual translated it on his free time well after aired. This wouldn't have happened if it were modern Super Sentai or Kamen Rider, and those series often have more than one group subbing it too.
If Ultraman had even the slightly popularity like Kamen Rider shit does, we would have seen everything translated and scrubbed long ago.

Mebius was one of the very few series I was able to marathon, so maybe that's why. Some eps I felt like I was slightly forcing myself to watch, and those seemed to be the less developmental (not necessarily plot).
I am grateful that Mebius managed to be a full series, because fuck was it great. Cutest Ultraman, good OST, tons of fanservice, great cast, just overall a great show.

Controversy aside, Spell has to be one of my favourite Showa kaiju designs; simple but actually pretty creepy at the same time. It's a shame you can't get a good sofubi of it without forking over $100+.

Not really. The connection between the kaiju's appearance and Hiroshima victims was made years later by a magazine recapping the series. There was a public outcry, and Tsubaraya claimed the episode would never be run again. The kaiju and the episode itself are not meant to be offensive.

Mebius or X.
Both are shows that introduce new viewers to some of the older Ultraman characters in a new viewer friendly way. Both are a-typical of Ultraman shows, you get a bit of story, but it's mostly episodic fun with the cast of characters and then things can occasionally get real as shit.
X is shorter and introduces you to the newer Ultramen (from about 2004 on) while Mebius is longer, from 2006, and introduces you to the characters from the original continuity before the shows started being self contained.
It hit me this morning that Ultraman X is basically just Ultraman Mebius for kids of today and I have no idea why that didn't don on me sooner.
