To stop this he goes behind their back with intent to kill and weaken the company and gain power in it. Which is corrupt
He then proceeds to get the two closest people to him that would follow everything he says killed. Thus losing two useful assets in the hope he will take some of their power, but will also lose a lot of it cause all their relationships don't transfer in a will and neither does having trusted people you can send to do things. This is also pretty corrupt
He also helps a merch group carrying a (useless) diplomat get through so they can destabilise everything, which is not only corrupt but more likely to create a power vacuum where everyone will act corrupt tying to get a piece
He also does illegal augmentation to create a (useless) super MS
So by the end of the show, he didn't get shit but a loli wife
to marry a 9 year old,

Yeah, he gained Gaileo's status but lost Gaileo who already had it and more while also being a pawn he could control and send to do things for him
His endgame is he wants to become the biggest power in Gjallarhorn, so he can reform it into something more in-line with his own ideals.
The problem is, that he accomplishes it in a really dumb way.

Not sure we can say this. He may, instead, want to destroy and replace Gjallarhorn with something else entirely. For Gjallarhorn to go away, its central pillars need to be broken. Corruption and reform, in conjunction with his position in the organization, just happen to provide McGillis with means to achieving those ends without any appearance of impropriety. Aside from helping Tekkadan, which was done through affiliate organizations, he did everything he was supposed to. His father's fraud was exposed and he didn't flinch from removing him.
He could always just be a spiteful bastard that wants to ruin all the things his "betters" cared about.

But if he intends to reform Gjallarhorn or use its resources/remnants to create some new organization, then his plan is pretty retarded since he could have done it easily with Carta and Gaelio working in a unified Gjallarhorn but instead now has to do it alone, with Gjallarhorn all but completely destroyed.

In Carta's case, at the very least, that was a direct blow against his father. Carta was under Iznario's guardianship, losing her meant losing influence over the Issue's share of Gjallarhorn. Carta's death also served to bring the number of stars down from seven to six.
Gaelio, you could argue, was necessitated as a mop-up. With Ein made robo-Ein, and Carta dead, Gaelio's trust for McGillis should've been shaken. After her dying gasps for McGillis and Gaelio's (almost certain) knowledge of his role in her suicide mission, Gaelio might've started looking into McGillis' actions and decisions. This would jeopardize not only McGillis directly, but his status as Almiria's betrothed AND the possible Fareed heir given that Iznario had no other children. Apparently.
Seriously though, bastards really doesn't work as an angle without any competition. And why are Gjallarhorn seven stars so bad at sex? Surely they ought to have siblings or at least cousins?
That all aside, were there more efficient ways for McGillis to get what he wanted by using Gaelio and Carta? Almost certainly. The trajectory of the show would have to be a bit different, but almost nothing that happened in IBO S1 should be seen as necessary/ Only really important point was finally getting Kudelia to Earth and getting her involved with one of the blocs.

But then you're saying that Gaelio had to be killed because he was losing trust in McGillis, because of McGillis making these bonehead obvious moves so obvious even his best friend lost faith in him.
And even then you saw how devastated Gaelio was when McGillis revealed himself, so Gaelio was pretty jaded by Carta's death and Ein going full Robocop II, but he still believed in him.
I like McGillis, because he is basically the only interesting character left in IBO at this point, but his plan was real boneheaded. Surely there was SOME other way to erode his father's influence. Like save her from a bomb threat or something. Iznario would still lose influence, Carta would love him even more, the Issue family would directly owe him for saving their daughter's life, and she's still alive for him to use.
Basically at this point, McGillis' plan existed because it makes him look especially twisted and manipulative and sociopathic.

So, based on my loose medieval studies and the stuff I inferred from the show, I think the Gjallarhorn people who are dynastic require a sponsor. With Carta's father out of the picture, I seem to recall he was supposed to be pretty old and infirm, Inzario ended up being that guy. If Carta's father is a vegetable, she effectively belongs to Iznario unless something incredible happened and the other seven stars intervened.
The problem is simple, the bad guy has to be a bad guy. If McGillis did things differently, he wouldn't be villainous. Also, removing his father required something as substantial as what went down at the end of S1. Gjallarhorn got their shit kicked in, publicly, and they shouldn't have been their in the first place or manipulating the electoral process of an economic bloc. We also can't forget Ein and his rampage. Now, none of this required Carta's death, or Ein's death, or Gaelio's maybe death. The siege of Edmonton could've gone on without their involvement and turned out the same way with much of the same ends. If Iznario had been set up as an actual bad guy rather than just a corrupt background badguy, and McGillis had been set up as a good guy, an about-face in S2 could've gone on. This would've been interesting. But, again, to accommodate these changes you would end up with an entirely different show. Which wouldn't have been a bad thing. At the very least, they could've implicated him directly in the Dort horseshit instead of doing fuck-all with the Nobliss Gordon sub-plot.

It would have worked if they made McGillis more of a morally ambiguous antagonist. He's kinda like a shit Delita Hyral from Final Fantasy Tactics. But yeah, in order to do that, they would have had to actually show Gjallarhorn as more than some mustache-twirling assclowns.

Maybe McGillis removed Carta + Gaelio for the reasons mentioned already ITT, but couldn't it also be because he thinks he's the only who can do it and that the others would just get in the way at some point?
Also killing off everyone related to old Gjallarhorn in some way and paving the way for a new one Gjallarhorn, without the shackles of the old system relying of nepotism and dynastic shit, could also be one of his goals.
But really, we all know that he killed Carta (the woman who loved him) and Gaelio (perhaps his only and closest friend) is for the drama. Because how dramatic is betraying and killing the two people closest to you?

What there is to say? McGillis realized that instead of putting a bullet in Gordon's skull like how the Teiwaz would do if they think you slighted them. They decided to sweet the deal for Gordon, he gets a share of the profits and Tekkadan gets a military sponsor Anaheim Electronics style. Meanwhile since the incident was bad enough for Kudelia to get personally involved and she has a massive amount of support from Abrau and anyone who sided with Henry would basically a Ghorn lackey and deserves no actual support.

Killing Carta and Gaelio was a whole level of dumb in itself considering they were both incredibly loyal to him.
Unless he wants Gjallarhorn filled with talented individuals as well as loyalty, his ambitions are going to fall to pieces very fast if he continues doing things this way.
Looking forward to his death at any rate. There hasn't been a Char that deserved death so hard as this guy in quite some time.
