First time watching SEED back in the day I actually liked Nicol. Thought him and Athrun made a really strong case for ZAFT as likable protagonists, even more so than Zeon. I genuinely enjoyed the characterization of the antagonists.
Now I hate Nicol, and upon this reflection, SEED went shit after killing him.

So the remaster of Seed made this guy fly himself directly into Kira's sword who was just standing there to absolve Jesus of any actual blame in his death, right?
Its a terrible reimagining of Mobile Suit Gundam, Amuro would have went berserk and cut Nicol into a hundred pieces like he did to all those Zaku and Dom pilots, then suffer ptsd, then overcome his depression to become a functioning commander of a military unit based on his merit instead of his connections and lead them to kill more bad guys instead of fly randomly shooting people in the limbs.

No, they made him fly directly into the sword while Kira was trying to move the sword away from him.
It doesn't just absolve Kira, it tries too hard in the wrong direction to make him goody goody.
