I'm half way through Destiny and am actually enjoying it a fair bit. It's certainly not incredible but it's definitely an improvement on Seed, so far I'm not understanding why it's so utterly loathed.
Of course that could all change but what I've seen so far is by no means the worst Gundam series.

Yeah I'm about halfway through and I don't see what's wrong either. I mean some of the dialogue is awkward, like the stuff between Lunamaria and Athrun, but other than that and the retarded politics the show's not that terrible. I actually really liked the colony drop sequence and that one time Shinn destroyed a giant cannon by stabbing a mobile suit and shoving it down the cannons barrel.

Seed Destiny was not trash. This is why I recommend it. Destiny had a shit main character but the underlying story was interesting. In fact more interesting than your run of the mill spacenoids want independence from bad earth that is the cornerstone of most Gundam series.
