Tsuburaya's tutorial on modern ultra grunts

1. Record actor's voice
2. Duplicate track and lower duplicate's pitch
3. Blend duplicate with original track and add dumb-sounding echo
4. ????
5. PROFIT!
>>
>>14435883
what was the old process?
>>
>>14435933
The old process didn't have any duplicate tracks or echo. Also in the trailer they changed Noa's grunts, which IIRC are supposed to be lower-pitched nexus sounds
>>
>>14435942
>The old process didn't have any duplicate tracks or echo
I dunno, sounds like there's some metallic reverb type thing on most of the traditional signature noises.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoDhHWYR6_Q
But I mean, I'm really interested in what all they did to make them back then, I'm not concerned much about how the new one does it wrong.
I'd like to know more about Japanese sound effects techniques of back in the day.
Is there a documentary or something where they explain it?

That's a very risky move considering the only audience left are turboautists afraid of anything not making homage to their childhoods. I hope they stick with it. Wouldn't be the first time Tsuburaya goes back to a more traditional format for the audience, see 80
>>
>>14435795
Apparently they fucked up and forgot to put Nexus in the final part where all the Ultras get to pose and the re-upload is the fixed version
>>
>>14436789
I noticed that the first time I saw it and assumed they just put him in the fade between Cosmos and Max.
>>
>>14436758
I think 80 as a teacher would have gone a bit better if he weren't bullied by the assistant principal and didn't spill his spaghetti around that one female teacher he had a crush on. It was probably too real for them.

The last episode where the school was feature was kinda satisfying in that he finally told the assistant principal and the nerdy kid's helicopter mom to fuck off and let the kids be kids. In the polite space Japanese way, of course.

>What looks like the bad guy of Orb has the Orb thing as well
So what are the odds that Orb cannot manifest his own form because half of his power is not with him and thus he has to actually borrow power from the others to transform?

Pretty high. I had a feeling we're getting another Noa/Zagi or Ginga/Dark Lugiel scenario as soon as the Dark Ring was revealed.

Tsuburaya can get away with this if Orb's friends cosplay as the past teams and constantly make references to them, especially the teams from Hayata to Leo. They look like UFO otakus. Just thinking from a commercial POV, tokufags are autistic as fuck but the ultrafags are especially autistic. They make the rest of the tokufags to look normal by comparisson.

Not really sure who is more autistic but the riderfags, for better or worse, have to share their beloved franchise with stupid kids and the housewives while the ultrafags have Ultraman all for themselves. Modern Ultraman is how would be rider if Narutaki was in charge of rider and at the same time Bandai demand collectible items for increasing the toy sales

It's the same with riders addressing to the past riders as sempai. Japan is a vertical society and nips care a lot about politeness. The later is actually a good thing, on moderate dosis and not in the autistic Japanese way

It's surprising they dusted off such an obscure manga to animate. At the same time, I would have preferred another story to be adapted, or maybe something original.

Like how the fuck a powerless Dan survived being sucked into the vacuum of space in Leo.
>>
>>14451115
Didn't Dan die for real? I thought he was talking to Gen from the afterlife or something. I mean, Dan died at the end of his own show so it's not like there's a strong continuity between the ultra series. There was a Leo manga running together with the TV show and it has a different ending, the Ultra Brothers join Gen and help him to defeat Black Star. I don't know if MAC was attacked too but if Dan join the final battle, the manga should explain how he survived

It doesn't make sense to cancel something that's very cost-effective (Ultra-acts are heavily retooled), web exclusive-only, and was very much active up until the S.H. Figuarts were shown/announced in late 2015.
Bandai needs to fix up that PAWADO first before they released him

>Though Dark Lucifer looks a lot more like Noa that way
I noticed that too, I was trying to add in some elements from The Next as well. I'm not sure how he would look from a side view because he's got a really weird middle headcrest with the Exceed X-esque horn in the front(I guess it could be used as a slugger type of weapon) and the side crests are supposed to be really jagged. I think the differences would be more apparent if he were in color. His face is like an edgier evil Noa while his body has markings similar to the OG Ultraman, save for all the plates on the abs and the ribs, and the codpiece.

I also thought of a name for that Ginga Victory/Noa fusion. It should be called Gravity Breaker if it ever becomes a thing.

Also FSR I think that if Lucifer ever did make an appearance he would start by killing off the other dark ultras. Resulting in a battle between him and Belial that results in Belial getting hit with Lucifer's main finisher and falling from the sky, complete with that Nexus bubbling light blood effect coming out of his chest and mouth

Are you kidding? It airs in less than 24 hours, and unlike Ultraman X, there's been no word whatsoever about the show being simulcasted. Not even those who have asked about it received any confirmation, either. I'd know, because I've also personally contacted them about it.

It's very much fair to assume that CR may not simulcast the show.

It did, though tokusatsu in general doesn't have that great of a viewership anymore. Ultraman just has it worse because of mediocre timeslot/not as popular as it was with kids/less kids today in Japan than before.

It's exactly why Toei also wants to make Kamen Rider and Sentai more popular internationally, due to Japan's dying population and all.

80 was a flop, it got retooled because the audience rejected the J-drama format but retools rarely work. Tiga got solid ratings during the first ten episodes but it ended with 5% To be fair, TBS was expecting Hayata-tier ratings but everyone on the staff knew that was impossible on the current year

Let's face it, if they want Ultraman to be successful, it's not going to happen via Crunchyroll. They need to get it dubbed, so kids can watch it, then sell them toys. The toys are a major part of the equation.

Non-whites love movies that star non-whites.

Amazon Prime and Netflix Original shows are not just aired for Americans. They are dubbed in several different languages and aired worldwide. The market for programming is global, the days of shows for white people starring white people is eroding quickly.

I understand that, just that many people would rather pirate shit than watch things on CR due to convenience. There are plenty of Americans who downloaded the CR Mebius/whatever rips and not bother with Crunchyroll, for example.

Not to mention that many download their stuff via nyaa, or watch it on other non-official streaming sites. Not everybody hears it by word and are told to help support Tsuburaya. A lot of people couldn't give less of a shit about supporting whatever.

That has a lot to do with the declining birthrate, which is why Toei and Tsubarya are eager to expand Westward.

I'm not sure what people mean when they say "PR has ruined Tokusatsu". PR is still airing, there is a presence in toy stores. This is the market Tsubaraya is aiming for.

The ratings measure the percentage of certain demographic watching a show, that demographic shrinking doesn't mean the percentage shrink as well because it's a symbolic number. For example Gaim made 10.1% on the kids demographic while a year before the J-drama Akumu-chan made 30% on the kids demographic. Ten years ago, Faiz made 19.47% on the kids demographic.

While the negative birth rate has a some influence, maybe modern kids don't like what past kids used to like
