So what mech OVAs do you guys recommend? I feel like a lot of good content lies there that I'm missing out on by sticking to two/four court TV shows.
I'll start with what I've seen:
-Dragon's Heaven: great designs, art style
-MD Geist, obviously hated by most anime fans, but I think it's good for mecha enthusiasts, again because of designs and fight scenes
One that I actually hate is Cybernetics Guardian. It sucks and was cringeworthy
Pic related seems like a neat purchase too.
None of them. All the good ones are well known.
There's a number of things that don't get brought up much like Legaciam, Borgman, Gaiarth, Black Lion, A.D Police Files and so on.
I don't know whether any of them are any good either. Probably the most obscure thing I've watched is Z-Mind, which was fun, albeit quite mediocre.

Anyway go watch Genocyber if you haven't, it's fucking awesome.
Patlabor is fun if you haven't seen that either. It got an ova and was then turned into a tv show.
There's also Five Star Stories which looks gorgeous and has a great manga.

That's not lesser known at all. In fact its infamous reputation is from how hard CPM crammed it down the anime community's throat.
I wish Gakusaver was more well known

Nah. I'm sure individual copies can be found easily enough, at least for Geist. Cyguard actually has an R2J DVD by Pioneer (the only one of Ohata's OVA's that does) but it's never been ripped anywhere.

ARIEL is a good one.
Do not let the cover art mislead you: it's a parodic take on the super robot genre, and ARIEL herself only appears for short amounts of time.

has the right idea. You'll have better luck getting them individually unless you want to shell out a healthy wad of cash on Amazon for the set (on a quick sweep, you're looking anywhere from $65 to to $150 for this now.
