Everyone went back to their time except for Alto and Sheryl who came from the same timeline and were just pulled from wherever they had been at the time. Design-side story for the VF-31 is that Kawamori didn't have time to actually create a lego-block model like he usually does when designing VFs due to spending his time designing the Sv-262 Draken III, so he used the Chogokin YF-30 as a base when designing the VF-31. The reason it has forward-swept wings is because the Delta-wing looked too familiar to the Double delta wing of the Sv-262.
Macross-Timeline storyplot wise, the VF-31 is indeed basically a mass-produced version of the YF-30. It was designed by Celia Aerospace, which is a joint company between Shinsei Industries, LAI, and a few others, with the YF-30 from SMS Uroboros as a base with the goal of creating a versatile multi-role fighter. Because the YF-30 is also originally developed from the YF-24, the VF-31 also has the ISC Converter, Ex-Gear System, and whatnot.
That's the official story.

Where does the transliteration Celia come from? The katakana for the manufacture's name as written in the promo brochure thing (which are selectable) come out as "Surya" according to Google Translate, which people on MWF figured was a reference to the Hindu goddess of that name.

Anyway, the others are actually supporting the wowow in the single version too, but they aren't given much focus. Here they're just blasting everyone. I quite like both versions because used to the "solo" version as I am, the full blast wowow creates a bit of a dissonance to what I'm used to.

The epilogue has no other characters but Leon, Mina, Aisha and Alto, Sheryl, and Ranka. The other characters were already gone. So I assumed that they were from the same timeline.

I called it last week after realizing that for Macross Frontier, the VF kits didn't even start releasing until the show was over, and here they're giving us the main character VF at the half way mark? Very fishy.
Let's see, some theories about where they go from here.
1. Mirage steps down as Delta 2 in favor of Hayate due to feeling inadequate - she didn't make a difference in the battle (in her opinion), so she doesn't deserve to be leader. So, she goes back to being Delta 4, Hayate is confirmed as Delta 2, and the VFs remain painted the same numbers. Everyone is happy except people hoping for Mirage to get some confidence.
2. Messer's VF is returned to storage, and a new VF-31J is built for Hayate, which is painted Delta 5, but he and Mirage retain their callsigns of Delta 4 and Delta 2 respectively. Toy owners are happy because their neat line up of Delta 1 through 5 will still look the same, everyone watching is confused by the callsigns being different from what's printed on the fighters.
3. Hayate keeps the VF-31F and the Delta 4 callsign, without repainting the VF. Same as above, toy buyers are happy they only need the same five toys, viewers are confused by the numbers being mismatched.
4. Hayate keeps the VF-31F, and all the VFs are repainted to match their new callsigns. Toy buyers scream bloody murder, because now they need different VFs for the early or late series, and probably seven or eight of the things for a complete collection. Viewers are happy that the numbers make sense.
5. Variation on 4, Hayate gets a new VF-31J, everyone gets new numbers on their VF, and once again the toy buyers scream bloody murder at having to buy seven for a full collection, rather than just five, while viewers are happy because the numbers match.
Which will it be, you think? I'm thinking the list is pretty much in order of most likely to least likely. Anyone want to order it differently?

Better than the VF-25, definitely. It adds a bunch of weapons options to the plain airframe without having to pay for it in additional engines or needing super-expensive add-on packs (the Tornado pack was more expensive than the Armored), like the internal missile launchers, the modular container thing, and the beam gun pod.
Better than the VF-27? Maybe. The VF-27 pays through the nose for the beam gun pod - it needs two extra engines to power the thing, though that's probably because of the overcharge mode. I also don't remember the VF-27 launching a bunch of missiles, but someone will be along to prove me wrong shortly.
Better than the YF-29? Less expensive, maybe. And it has more options, at least. The YF-29 doesn't have much in the way of places to add super parts beyond the ones we're already shown, and those were pretty minimal and for atmospheric use mainly. The VF-31 super parts cover all the same areas on the battroid as the VF-25's do, except the center of the back, while the YF-29s cover the wings only (IIRC).

The VF-25's versatility is heavily dependent on optional equipment(which is used accordingly based on the variant and situation). Its very versatile with a rather bare bones design to fit a lot of equipment, but its because of that versatility that the VF on its own doesn't have much weapons outside of the packs.
It has a standard gunpod, some missile hardpoints that aren't necessarily equipped with missiles(Useless if you have a pack on anyway), the standard head laser, and that's about it for the main weapons on VF itself.
The VF-27 is probably hard to come by, what with it being used mainly by Galaxy forces.
One thing you have to note is that the YF-30 has a Fold Dimensional Resonance system, which presumably works similarly to the YF-29's Fold Wave system. The 31 most probably has something similar in it, especially for Delta squad's 31s.
Chaos probably uses the VF-31 because they needed a VF that could relay the fold waves from Walkure and their options was either the most-probably-expensive-as-fuck 29, or the not-so-costly production version of the 30, the 31.

And VF-17/117 frames are old, a new, general purpose plane, like F-18 family irl is, is a welcome few for many in macrossverse.
I just kinda realized, any discussion of the power-level of the VF-31 has conveniently ignored the stacks of Multi-drone Units that the VF-31 has.
These are the Macross-equivalent of Gundam's Funnels or Bits, and by themselves have the potential to allow the VF-31 to far superior offensive and defensive capabilities compared to any other existing Valkyrie in the Macross timeline.
Now we just need to see some newtype shit show up in the next 13 or so episodes.

The multi-drones are for Walkure's personal use for their own and civilian protection and also serve as amplifiers. They run out of battery after extensive usage and need to be recharged. They can be disrupted with ECM jamming but were upgraded after episode 4 to prevent it from happening again.

Looking them up the YF-29 appears to be the stronger model in just about every way imaginable, at least assuming the Percival is identical to the Durandal in performance and loadout - since I can't find anything on the Percival on it's own.
The YF-29's main two engines are only a touch less powerful than then the YF-30's, but it has two extra ones as well that give it far more power. The YF-29 has a greater thrust to weight ratio (61.14 to 1 compared to 53.07 to 1). It has more weapons as standard and can accomodate super packs and more additional equipment as opposed to just the container the Chronos has. The Chronos has more hard points from what I gather, it just doesn't have any packs designed for it. It's also designed from the ground up to use a heavy quantum gun, while the Chronos just had one fitted as a late mod, so it's probably better suited to that weaponry for what little that means.

No it's not. The only problem with Planet Dance is that they forgot that there were three other Fire Bomber songs for the next several episodes after the first one - Totsugeki Love Heart, Seventh Moon and My Friends were all in the first ep (Seventh Moon only as OP though) but weren't heard again inside the show for some time afterwards.
Also, Macross 7 had this unfortunate tendency to cut the music when they went to the battle scenes unless it's Basara singing - the reason no one remembers that My Friends is in the first episode is that it cut from Mylene singing to silent space battle every thirty seconds.

Just looking at the PSN Store's sales I noticed that Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is up for sale at the moment. I've never played any of them, but I do notice it gets a fair bit of attention here as a franchise and there seems to be a lot of comparisons for Delta to Ace Combat Zero or something if I recall. So, is Assault Horizons a good guy, a good game for newbies to the franchise or just something to avoid? And if it is should I get the Advanced Edition or normal? I'm assuming Advanced, but just in case.

Assault Horizon is a horrible way to introduce yourself to Ace Combat since the whole design philosophy of the game was Call of Duty with planes.
I'd say Four, Five or Zero are really good entry points to the franchise and those games will give you a good idea of what to expect from Ace Combat games.

I think it's a bit too overly cutesy compared to the rest of the songs. Like even something as light like When my rune flashes has that 70s groove vibe to it and the lyrics themselves are about Freyja. It's sort of the reason why I didn't like a lot of Ranka or Mylene's songs or why I don't like most of Love Live's songs. They feel like they are just pop for pop's sake instead of having some strong instrumental accompaniment or awesome lyrics or some kind of style factor.
For the record I don't think Beginner is "bad", in fact I think all the Japanese wordplay in it is very clever, it's just my least favorite in the album. Also I may just not like Makina's singing voice

Zentraedi, once they've been cultured, really seem to like listening to songs and stuff - hence the whole Gallia IV incident and the like. Does anyone else think that some groups of cultured Zentraedi, in the absence of idols for hire, would have gotten the idea to try and sing for themselves?
A while back I was running an RPG campaign where the characters ended up being temporary guests aboard a human-allied Nupetiet-Vergnitzs, and basically as a fun thing to do I threw in the Zentraedi taking it as an opportunity to throw a party, which of course involved singing. Specifically, in this case, an all-male chorus made up of most of the crew, kind of like in that scene from Hunt for the Red October.
Does anyone else think it would be utterly awesome to see a large mass of Zentraedi going into battle singing a proper battle hymn? Maybe even in Delta, under the premise of "as long as we keep singing ourselves, the Song of Wind won't get to us?"
