I like Z3 too, anon. I think the Angels are kind of shitty villains, except for Advent who I actually like quite a bit, and the Sidereal stuff before that was good. Mechanically Tengoku was a strong improvement over Jigoku, we got the first skill points in ages that required more thought than gottagofast, and they fixed the most outrageous broken shit like Miracle Fragments. Storywise it flubbed the landing, which is unfortunate, but gameplay-wise it was a hell of a lot easier to finish and replay than Alpha 3, and it deserves credit for that.

Ultramen are fairly interesting units, I think. Same for Jumborg and other such Tokusatsu stuff in SRC. Wish a future update could add more like Tiga, Zero, and Ginga.

SRC Dungeon. Think something like the original SRW in function, but with a ton more units and series, over 700 units from something like nearly 300 series, and in this particular mode, you pick a leader unit and get 10 Gatcha rolls from the unit pool to make a starting team.

I translated the choice menu, and started making a game out of letting people choose a leader and then making their 10 rolls, just to see how their luck fairs and as a fun little time waster. You're welcome to try your luck as well.

Animations are pretty simplistic thanks to the nature of the engine, it's usually variants of "square crashes into square" or "gun/sword on attacking unit, play minor effects" kind of stuff. It's possible to make semi-decent animations out of it, there's a SRC game out there that has F-level animations, but it's mostly simple stuff. It can still be kind of quaint, like when attempts are made to make a melee move a little different by making the little icon do flips and such to simulate choreography.

The novelty is just in the sheer number of units and variance you can have, especially with how many things are stuff people want in SRW or just a lot of stuff that's obscure or NEVER EVER when it comes to the series. (And personally, I find it a bit fun to look at the attempts to balance units, or see what post-Winky debuted series might look like in the Winky era)

And Masaki route cleared. If this was the entire game, it would probably be the easiest game in the franchise based on how trivial the game is made by couple units. Which units are those? I beat Masaki's and Lune's routes on EX, but it was like 15 years ago and I had no idea what I was doing at the time due to it being in Japanese and one of the first SRW games I played.

The only things I really remember were that Aura Battlers were ridiculous once you got their Will to 120 or 130 or whatever it was and that it was probably the only iteration of SRW where the GP02 sucked.

F91 was ridiculous with a high power finisher for a low EN cost. ZZ was also good for its MAP attack, and unlike SRW3 you could fire twice here. They had the double movie earliest which really helped rush these stages. Didn't use the Aura Battlers since I could bother killing mooks with them to raise Will. It was easier to just rush F91 and Cybuster to the enemy camp, everyone else lagged behind and needed at least three to four turns to even arrive at the enemy camp.

Don't have it on hand anymore and I can't remember the name, unfortunately. Too many SRC games out there that are incomplete or hard to find (or impossible to find when the host site goes poof). It was some oddball of a game that was something of a G Generation with the unit range of a SRW, since you could create your own characters to shove in various licensed and OG mecha.

I've considered it, since translating stuff like unit names is a pretty simple affair, as is most attacks and stuff, but my understanding of moon is here and there so kanji stuff like ability descriptions and stuff might escape me.

The biggest stopping block is the fact that it still updates regularly, and any updates pretty much null my work when you go to the next version.

I may get back to it and do at least a unit translation file some day for those who'd be interested and wouldn't mind playing an out-of-date version.

It does occasionally pull out really good looking stuff - especially when you consider the games with 3D animation before it - and the early parts are pretty good. But the game just steadily gets less fun to play over time.

after chapter five it gives you almost nothing new - just endless missions of fighting the same enemies on the same maps with crazy numbers of reinforcements. Then when you deploy them, while every unit gets Will, SP, and EN per turn, the only unit who gets Will and SP from fighting enemies is the squad leader - so if you use a squadmate spirit command, say goodbye to their entire SP pool for the next few turns. Particularly galling in that regard is that units which can swap pilots DON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM - for Shin Getter and Gurren Lagann, the pilots not in the lead get SP and Will just fine!

I don't know how far this goes, but in SRW R enemy grunts will occasionally use their SP.

Well, I've only seen them use one so far.

Z3 wasn't awful. It had several big flaws:

Song can singlehandedly make any given scenario much more simple to go through, yeah. It would make any unit good, but it helps that it's stuck on the Macross Quarter, and the Macross Quarter is an actually pretty solid unit - yeah, it has the same problem every battleship does (fucking Anti-Ship is everywhere and it's a bullshit multiplier) but it has an actual Defense stat and a good barrier so it takes hits better than the other fuckers. And it's much stronger AND has good MAPs. Only issue is the total lack of Hot Blood really, but every battleship had that problem.

Leave Z1 the way it is.

Expand Z2 with the series that were added in Z3 that could be added given the time frame and other series, Don't bring the Z1 people over.

Make Z2 it's self contained game that ends with Z2 and Z1 Earth's being contected.

First half of Z3 is Z2 Earth and Z1 Earth being forced to fight each other, with the big mid game finale being ZEUTH VS ZEXIS in a full scale brawl after a series of skirmishes

Then the two teams unite to defeat the Angels who all have proper mechs and such
