This actually sweet Godzilla design now that I actually look at it. A bit extreme, but pretty cool nonetheless.

I prefer the original Heisei design - Biogoji suit is a lot slimmer in comparison to it's post-KG, cheapo replacement, and the original placements of the spines - first and biggest one at the shoulders; gave it a lot more top heavy appearance, that offset the THICC by quite a bit.

It's a monster. It's supposed to be awkward, because awkwardness is more unnerving and, to many, more creepy. I can't really think of many outlandish aspects of it that don't somehow contribute to it in a positive way anyway.
Most people who complain about it seem too focused on it not being like pre-existing Godzillas. So I suppose said people would rather this franchise stay exactly where it's been for the past few decades, not adapting to new standards, until it withers and dies.

You're not saying what's wrong with the design, you're just saying that people don't like it.
Lots of things work for the design. The stiff, towering posture and wide base evoke size and power, the eyes are reminiscent of a crazed or wild animal, the scarring and exposed skeleton are indicative of it's origin, etc.
Not once have I heard a solid point as to what doesn't work in the design.
And I really hope you don't think the entire defense for this design is coming from butthurt Eva fans.

The only thing I don't like are the tiny tiny arms. O ;ole the teeth, the creepy eyes, the huge tail. But those arms just look useless. And the fact that they appeared to be stuck in a writhing position in pretty much every shot makes me worried he won't even use them in the film.

That can be a very thin line, though. Some things can be creepy or funny, depending on how you think about them.
IE in the original poster, people thought the eyes looked like googly eyes, whereas I thought they looked like the eyes of a frightened animal at first glance. With a bit of the whites showing. Them being so beady helped them as well.
But shit, if you're going to hate every Godzilla design that one could claim looks like a Muppet, then you're just disregarding the entire Showa era.

Fucking watch '54 Godzilla and Godzilla vs Megalon back to back and tell me that this movie, as we've seen it, is ANY more different than those two are from one another. Talk about how shitty it is that this movie is being avant-garde with it's imagery and tone after watching Vs Hedorah.
Y'all want to treat this like another Godzilla '98 when we've already HAD Godzilla movies with this grim of a tone and outlandish of a change from the norm.
A good bit of the appeal of Godzilla is the flexibility and variety between the films. Already, there is no one kind of Godzilla movie. All you care about is your IMAGE of Godzilla as you like him.
And you can dislike the new Godzilla all you want, but at least don't try to pretend that Anno and Higuchi not adhering to your tastes is a disgrace to the whole franchise, being as diverse as it already is.
