During the OYW did the Federation have any sort of helicopter

During the OYW did the Federation have any sort of helicopter like aircraft besides this fucking thing? I know the original Gundam had 70s as fuck retro-futuristic mechanical design that didn't really take into account actual future technologies, but there has to be more than this because I always though helicopters would be great forward recon units for mobile suit teams on Earth.

Generally the EF arsenal was winged aircraft.
If you want loads of helicopters do try Dougram.

Also Fanfan is nice.

The Fanfan is nice until you realize the FEAR rockets its packing are mounted in a stupid place and that it's needlessly complex for something an AH-1 could have done.
>>
>>14388773
Even more reason to watch Dougram then, Dueys kick ass.
>>
>>14388712
they did, its just finding decent pics of them is a pain in the fucking ass

Well I'm putting that on the watch list, then. Too bad the model kit for it seems to be very old and hard to find.

goddamnit bandai
>>
>>14388773

What's stupid about their mounting position? What's needlessly complex about the design as a whole for that matter?
>>
>>14388844
hard to reload

you can't just slide a cart under, detach the pod, and roll it away to be replaced with a new one like on most aircraft.
>>
>>14388843
>bandai
Revell actually, from my research. The Duey model kit was bundled with some other mecha under a "Robotech" branded line in the late 80s.
>>
>>14388853

So instead they slide a crane over, detach the pod and roll it away to be replaced. Sounds much the same, with the only added complexity being the mechanics need a ladder to climb on to the top of the Fanfan. An extra step yes, but not exactly a massive step in complexity.

what >>14388853 said, also
>two giant enclosed turbofans when just having a propeller would have worked
>these two giant enclosed turbofans which would be giant targets which if hit would cause the thing to fall out of the sky

Oh and the fact with the rocket pod configuration the aircraft would have to tilt more downward to hit a target than it would compared if it was mounted under or on a wing pylon.

Sounds more complex to me.
>>
>>14388899
A little extra time and effort required to reload was part of the reason the YA-9 lost to the A-10
>>
>>14388920

It doesn't have turbofans looking at it though, since there's no engine component - just two enclosed rotors/propellors. Which isn't really any more complex than most helicopters - since most helicopters have two rotors too. The second is usually small, but they usually have them. The rotors on any other helicopter would also be a giant target that'd cause them to fall out of the sky if hit. Also, if those missiles are guided (and they are) then it won't matter what angle they're launched at so long as the target is more than a few feet away, since the missile can just adjust it's own angle after launch to compensate.

>Also, if those missiles are guided (and they are)
Only when used within Jaburo because of the lack of Minovsky particle scattering. Meanwhile in every other combat situation they'd be better off firing rockets due to Minovsky jamming.
>>
>>14388953

They were mostly meant for Jaburo though, so it's not really a particularly valid complaint.

>>14388961
Which is my problem and why I started this thread: I wanted to know if there were any other Federation OYW helicopters or some hovering aircraft that were used, mostly because I want to be really autistic over a model kit diorama I want to make.

I might just end up using a Comanche helicopter model kit, though. At 1/144 scale it wouldn't be too large compared to a mobile suit and since it never made it to production it's not too much of a stretch to say "oh this is a OYW helicopter totally"

I don't recall any Federation helicopters. Zeon had some in 08th MS Team though.

I feel like that's ripping off too much

I would like one of these though, but I have no clue how big they are compared to a 1/144 Gundam kit
>>
>>14390398
Given that a "mech transport" version exists, pretty oversized is my guess
Also Hellhound is still from a Sunrise show so there's that
>>
>>14390419
Yeah but I think the Hellhound is 1:72 scale
>>
>>14388830
Just stick wings to a Cobra kit.
>>
>>14390429
Shapeways and E2046 might have something in 1/144 you could use, good luck sorting through everything though
