It does have red actually. It's a highlight, like on the Blitz. There isn't as much of it, but it's there. I would count the twin pistols and wing swords for more than invisibility personally.

It's not edgey in context though. What seperates the edge elements of Unit 01 and say, the Destiny Gundam, is that Unit 01 is supposed to be unnerving. The edge elements don't just exist to look cool (in the context of universe).
The Destiny has bloody tears, energy angel wings, a colossal blade, shining fingers, and a giant cannon. All of that just exists to make Shinn look cool when he fights people.

The only random things are really just the wings of light and hand beams. The rest is because it was a recycle of an unused proto-Perfect Strike design (which is why it's way closer to Strike than Impulse despite supposedly being developed from the latter)

Try showed us how much of a beauty it can be once it dumps the Strike holdovers though. The whole 'grip the beam feed to make your hand glow' aside, the shields were right there on the backs of the hands making them perfect for shielding the fists while punching. It can do palm strikes with the palm guns anywhere it can land a grip, the beam wings make it hard to visually track up close, and if it needs a melee weapon it can pull off the boomerangs and wield them as sabers.
It could be a glorious in-your-face boxer, it just tends to get shafted into stiff conventional weapons.

from what I've learned the most edgy things are the things that don't seem edgy at all until you take a look at them properly.
take this for example,kaworu,Fafners,Orbital frames,etc
But what takes the cake for me is this right here, Fafner Mark.Sein
The whole process of piloting it is practically a slow death and it consumes everything,
let's not forget the whole crystallization phenomenon it makes its pilot go through and how it made him practically go blind for a while.
it's whole fighting style is pretty edgy at times too with it wiping the battlefield clear singlehandedly on a few occasions.
There's also the way it was wrapped up in Exodus, it wasn't just locked away or chained like a normal mech either, it was wrapped in some weird material on top of that just to keep them safe.

The tv series Deathscythe Hell has an almost entirely cosmetic second blade on it's scythe, exposed ribs, a coffin shaped shield with a big spike and a cloak that's basically 4 big spikes. In what way is the EW one more edgy than that? The fact it has bat wings and some spikes on it's feet/knees isn't more edgy than adding a pointless second blade, having a coffin shield, making your cloak 4 big spikes and so on. Especially when the tv version itself has some twin spikes on each foot, even if they're a lot smaller.
I realize that wasn't the intention of the original design, which was to be gothic, rather than edgy, but those things are way edgier than some bat wings and spiked knees/feet in my opinion. The feet/knee spikes on the EW version are cosmetic and silly though.
