with the same level of modification, very high. but no one would fuck with a $40 mil car like that, so probably the age difference would make it a losing battle. you do have to consider, however, that the GTO was a dedicated racing car and is faster than you'd imagine if you're willing to thrash it.

Smaller profile. In a battlefield, being giant means you're a giant target, especially to artillery.
So, real life mecha would need to be relatively small - Votoms-sized mecha would be about stretching it.
Relatively likely in real life would be something like Tachikomas/Fuchikomas - they got small profile not bigger than average car/tank, ability to go on wheels on the road for speed/fuel advantage, while having off-road capability thanks to legs - and legs aren't weakpoints since there is many of them, so even with some damage vehicle is still mobile.

Do you truly use the word duramatter on a daily basis? (Which btw is actually dura mater). Also, while I knew what all the other words meant, many words that you used are by no means the most common form, and the sentence structures, though grammatically correct, were certainly not the most efficient or straightforward possible. Finally, the term thesaurus-search was used not only in its literal sense, but as a way of saying that you tried very hard to make it sound sophisticated by using "big words".

>Do you truly use the word duramatter...?
>the most efficient or straightforward possible

I don't use duramatter every day, but then again I don't talk about the brain every day.

Part of the process of creating interesting or worthwhile writing is using a wide variety of words and sentence structures. You can't scream "thesaurus search" if you see 'sanguine' instead of 'red' or 'ephemeral' instead of 'brief'. Unless someone's writing for grade schoolers, he is by no means obligated to use only the simplest possible vocab.

In other words, "basic English" absolutely necessitates a knowledge of a good amount of synonyms. You can't read the newspaper while knowing only the easiest alternatives to every word or concept.

Most of the sophistication in my portrayal of boxing did not come from the vocabulary either. If you read carefully, you'd have noticed that I mentioned the 'inertia of the duramatter' is used against its itself. This corresponds specifically to a knockout by cerebral concussion rather than any other method. Why? The brain or dura matter is going to be relatively inert until you apply enough force in the right way to the skull - at which point the brain attempts to remain inert (and it is aided in this fashion by its CS fluid). The inert brain and the rapidly moving skull collide and bam! - knockout via cerebral concussion.

There are different ways to achieve this, scaling in effectiveness based on the mechanics behind each punch. What kind of force is being applied, and where? What parts of the brain are affected, which ones are most vulnerable? Boxers have to consider this, thus adding a level of complexity to the sport.

If you want to know why Boxing is called a 'gentleman's sport', read this from Yahoo Answers.
>>
>>14412207
>
>Boxing is a Gentleman's Sport because a long time ago, at the dawn of the Marques of Queensbury Rules, Boxing, despite its popularity was illegal. You had three options, You could host boxing matches in grimey bars that were generally lawless. You could box on a farm or mill, and risk the authorities crashing the event, or you could “work your way up the ranks” and box as part of an event at private parties. Generally the host was commissioned to be the referee since it was his grounds, and thus his rules. Sometimes they would get a guest referee as part of the entertainment. Even Wyatt Earp out west was a referee. Anyways- to the point- boxing at its height of the time was a gentleman’s sport. It was paid for and viewed by the wealthy. It was the game in town the privately wealthy liked to afford. Fighters were respected by the upper class. It was a craft. An art. People thought boxing was classy. It still is. It’s a very sweet science.

I'd like to add that Theodore Roosevelt, child of a wealthy businessman and a socialite, who was later Harvard Educated, engaged in gentlemanly boxing as a child.

again with this? just admit that you purposefully overcomplicated your post to make it sound more sophisticated and get over it. it wasn't to make it more "enjoyable to read" (also because that level of obvious overcomplication becomes annoying quickly, even if it is written clearly, and I will admit yours was).

I also already said that boxing requires skill, which encompasses placing a punch properly. that does not stop it from being a punch to the head, which occurs, albeit with less purpose and regulation, in bar fights.
Finally, though some people claim it to be a gentleman's sport, i would argue that

a) those are opinions of people on the internet, and the "proof" they give is often not well documented or even truly related to the supposed gentlemanly nature of it (just because rich people did it did not make it a gentleman's sport, it is intrinsically ungallant and unsophisticated, as I believe I have discussed enough already)

b) They ALWAYS refer to boxing in the past. Now, boxing is definitely not gentlemanly at all, especially when you see some of the characters involved, both on and off the ring.
As a certain FightinIrish26 said: "To be quite plain, no, it is no gentlemen's sport, and it never has been. It's not filled with gentlemen, or for that matter, good men - guys in the boxing business (not really talking about the fighters as much as EVERYONE ELSE involved in the sport) are kind of the biggest pieces of shit and the shadiest motherfuckers that you'll ever meet.
I mean, c'mon. It's organized fighting. This is the hurtin' business. It's dominated by those in the lowest class, and the immigrants, the derelicts, the kids from the projects, and the guys who got nowhere else to go who aren't smart enough to do something else." I believe that he does a good job of summing up the current sport.

I will reiterate:
The value of my description of boxing was not in the vocabularly but in the concept. You got caught up in the vocab and obviously still have poor comprehension, so I'm not surprised that you entirely glossed over that point in my last post.

I'd like to mention that the initial portrayal was given in a somewhat facetious or hunorous manner, but that would clearly strain your aspergers-laden mind to the point of near-breaking, so I'll leave it be.

>it wasn't to make it more "enjoyable to read"
Yes it fucking was, see above. Or don't, if it will trigger you too much.

You don't have the context for the idea that it was a gentleman's sport. In that time period there were cudgeling contests, duels, and games with frequent deaths. Boxing was not only enjoyed by the wealthy. It was gallant because it had rules and the boxers approached eachother waist-up, no tackling, no rowdy antics. Just a fair fight. Originally boxers had the option to drop to a knee for 30 seconds at a time and collect themselves. The sport was as much about restraint as it was about force.

And yes, of course this refers to the past. The term itself is not often used by anyone to refer to any sport at all nowadays. (Excepting a few old or obscure articles online) I will admit at least that today there is nothing gentlemanly about Mayweather or his fans.
>>
>>14413586
first half: plain insults, I will not waste my time with them, especially as they have no foundation. I will say, however, that your original autist post was not enjoyable to read, though I could see the low-level underlaying irony.

second half: half proving my point, half providing some actual argument for yours for the first time. Just because it was considered more gentlemanly than other sports may have been at the time, it wasn't an objectively gentlemanly sport. You are still beating the shit out of each other, and I am sure there were deaths then as there have been in recent decades. So it wasn't objectively gentlemanly, whereas non-contact sports like motorsports, tennis, and british faggot sports like badminton and croquet, or even golf. Either way, currently boxing is second perhaps only to MMA in pure violence and unsophistication (Though there is maybe more of the latter in MMA due to the more complex combat).

The fact that you consider yourself to be winning this argument baffles me, as at no point have you had the upper hand. No wonder I've heard you brag (yes I know your usual trip, I recognized your style) about winning internet arguments before, and am now inclined to believe none of that, also because you consider winning putting in the last word.

My last point is a nice fuck you for saging a perfectly fine thread, for absolutely petty reasons.
>>
>>14414372
>plain insults
It absolutely astounds me that you seek to repeatedly prove my point. IF you had a mote of comprehensive ability in you, you'd know that I was commenting on the fact that you skipped my analysis of cerebral concussions in your rushed and shoddy response. You just don't get it.

>You are still beating the shit out of each other, and I am sure there were deaths then as there have been in recent decades. So it wasn't objectively gentlemanly, whereas non-contact sports like motorsports, tennis, a

>So it wasn't

Exactly how? What about that implies a lack of gentlemanliness? They played by civil rules and relegated deaths in the ring to the position of a mere accident- something that you yourself said happens very often in car-racing. The fact that it was a contact sport changes nothing. Yes,they touched, but essentially: both entered a contest of skill and strength, and both ended it fatigued and hurt. This happens in most sports.

But your basic argument lacks continuous logic. How did you make the jump from fighting to gentlemanliness? 'Beating the shit' out of eachother is a crude phrase, and you obviously inserted it in a vain attempt to diminish the culture and class behind historic boxing.

The fact is that being relatively civil for its time DID make it a gentlemanly sport; the concept of a 'gentleman' is a cultural phrase and necessarily reliant on the greater surrounding society.

Your points make little real sense. You rely on false or unexplained jumps in reasoning and insist on shifting the goalposts and ignoring valid statements in order to serve your needs. You break down meaningless frills on my replies and yet the meat of the conversation is clearly lacking on your part.

I saged the thread so it doesn't bump and attract a bigger shitstorm. Would you like to elucidate how sparing the rest of /m/ from our little bout is 'petty'? (Hint: here's a strawman for you, why not take it so you can avoid addressing your own failing case?)
>>
>>14414721
again, as usual, there is a lack of any new argument in your reply. Simply insulting my logic and comprehension does not win you arguments, even if you do it multiple times. Additionally, it is completely hypocritical of you to say that I do not comprehend your response, as you clearly cannot read carefully enough, though you quoted me, to see that I said the gentlemanliness might have been somewhat present in the limitation of their fighting, but from a neutral, timeless point of view is still fighting and therefore not gentlemanly.
Gentlemen do not use their fists to settle arguments with "carefully measured amounts of force to the cranium". They settle it like gentlemen, as the saying goes, by discussing it, through a nonviolent contest (btw the fact that racing is dangerous does not make it even remotely comparable to boxing, as the sport is to go fastest around a track, not to HURT PEOPLE), or through a duel, to the quick death by sword or gun. Generally though, "settle it like gentlemen" implies no violence.

"Beating the shit out of each other" is common parlance, unlike the somewhat more literate English in this argument. It was perfectly viable to use, and is a very apt description of boxing.

About the saging: I will respond, because you know perfectly well it wasn't to hide the thread. Stop lying about it and, as you yourself admitted, it is an asshole thing to do to sage a thread for the reason that you are doing it. Did your tiny mind get this?

One more thing. Why do you keep on arguing? You have already given up half of your argument by admitting that boxing is not a gentleman's sport anymore. I have made several, clear arguments as to why in the past, it still objectively wasn't, and therefore at most you can say that you might win half, or 1/4. Just stop. (Of course you will reply to this to try to force your "superior" logic and get the last word in. The only victory for you now is to ignore this b8 and stop arguing this stupid phrase)
>>
>>14414954
You fuckwit.

I wouldn't be insulting your logic and comprehension if it weren't for the fact that you are completely unable to form a reply that can drag itself beyond the stumbled mutterings of a half-aborted child with a quick temper and a burning desire to "prove himself".
>again, as usual
I'm correcting your blatantly false and sagging arguments.
Show me. I pick parts out of your argument with every reply and you respond with a limp-dicked "nope nope didn't do it it's all you". So show me, and I will listen.

for now, I will disect your entire argument and then watch as you continue to spew meta bullshit about "winning" and "just stop". Because you obviously want to limp away from this mess you've found yourself in, but can't stop fellating your own ego.

From square one
>gentlemans' sports are generally no-contact, sophisticated, and complex. boxing is, out of those three, at best somewhat complex.
You made this up; we have no valid reason to assume this is true. There, the root of your argument is dead & done.

>The use of complex or sophisticated-sounding vocabulary to describe simple tasks does not make said task complex or sophisticated.
You beat down a strawman, congrats. This notably does not address the issue of tactics and skill in boxing, which you incessantly downplay or ignore.

>Do you truly use the word duramatter on a daily basis? (Which btw is actually dura mater). Also, while I knew what all the other words ...
Another strawman comeback.

>They ALWAYS refer to boxing in the past.
> have already given up half of your argument by admitting that boxing is not a gentleman's sport anymore
And this is what "moving the goalposts" means. Gentleman's sport is a term that is not commonly used nowadays. When used, it refers to boxing among others. And the root of that reference is in the past. Modern boxing may not fit the description well, but the meaning of the descriptor still stands.

officially my last reply, as you don't know when to quit. the only one fellating his ego is you.

The no-contact clause of a gentleman's sport is not my made up bs, but a fairly widely accepted part of the definition, which also states that it is not a sport played by gentlemen, but rather one performed in a gentlemanly fashion. Gentlemen, as I have said, do not fight violently if not to a quick death.
The two "strawman" comebacks were still valid, and the posts they were used in had other valid points about your "real" arguments.
We are not in the past. Current nomenclature is not solely based on what was, but is always updated. That's why the dictionary has fucking swag in it. I will also argue, again, that objectively it was not very gentlemanly. simply being better than some other methods of the time does not make it gentlemanly, as it is intrinsically violent. The common ground between current and past definitions would be a "timeless" definition, which is this objective one.
The saging is so fucking bs. Your best thread reached about 300 replies, and you want to stop other threads from doing so, for some asshole reason. I know this because you have said this in the past. also it is clearly not a "distraction to shield my ass" as I added it as an afterthought
My "babble" about winning arguments is also straight from things you have said in the past. If anyone here is a neckbeard, it's you and you know it.
As to your definition of a socialite boxing, it was just as popular with poor people as it was with rich ones. Skill =/= sophistication, and rules =/= magically nonviolent. The minimization injury is just wrong. Boxing is a very dangerous sport, and with worse safety then I am sure that it was even more so.
Again with hypocrisy, you analyze the death rates of sports without realizing that in boxing the point is hurting the other person.

I now end my half of this stupid argument. If you want to reply to get the last word in, be my fucking guest.

Well then this will be my last too, chum.

>no-contact ... widely accepted
[citation needed]

>strawman ... valid
Obviously you are inexperienced enough here to believe that strawman defense has any value. It doesn't. It's trash used in damage control and CoIntelPro antics.

>we are not in the past
Yes, but some phrases and terms have roots in the past and thus retain that meaning. There are countless examples of this; try using " idioms.the free dictionary.com". I think you will find a vast quantity of idioms whose meanings are current but whose derivations are hopelessly lost in the past.

>saging is BS... 300 replies
What the hell are you on? When did I even state that? And yes, it is a distraction, you're making shit up to make me (and thus my argument) look bad.

>boxing is about hurting
No, wrong again faggot, it's about subduing people, and in a civil and sophisticated manner. If the sport was about hurting only, things would look very different. No 30-second breaks, no above-the-waist rule, there would be clawing and arm snapping, shoulder twists. IE your typical British bar match in the 1800 and 1900s.
Skill CAN contribute to sophistication if it is complex and varied, and in this case it is. (Good) Rules don't make something automatically violent, but they elevate its position in organized society, thus bringing it closer to 'gentlemanly' status. For its time and its viewership it was gentlemanly, organized, and high class.

Well that concludes things I hope. To each their own but I truly think you ought to reconsider your placement of boxing outside of the realm of gentleman's sports.

It's been a pretty reliable car. I have put about 30,000 miles in it in 3 years of ownership.

Just be prepared for some sticker shock when it comes to upkeep. Timing belts? $600 Clutch cylinders? 900? New door handles? $1500

I wouldn't recommend one as your first car or really even your second. But if you think you can afford to own a Porsche without ending up broke the first time you have to fix something than go for it. It's a wonderful car.
