I think they have a distinctive aesthetic and you'er unlikely to mistake any of the Empire's AT series or what have you for another franchises' mechs. They're pretty decent designs too. Not my favorite, but I do like the Droid Army vulture ships at the least.
I find them both ridiculous (retarded) and genuinely appealing to the eyes.

Imperial walkers were some of the coolest stop motion effects I ever saw growing up. That, and their sound effects were incredible.
Besides that, I think the walkers could use better limb joints since they seem to lack the range of motion needed to correct themselves and stand back up after falling over.

The explanation I've read is that antigrav can be interfered with by all sorts of conditions. Whereas a set of legs will work pretty much anywhere.

So since antigravs have been brought up in this thread, what about using antigrav technology to make a huge bipedal robot not need to support it's own weight? As bullshit as that sounds, Star Wars has a real bullshit universe so I see no problem with this.
