Quality-wise?
I'd say Zero is easily better than FC and Cold Steel. The sequels are a bit closer and are all great with different things that they do better than the others. Ao's probably the "objective" best followed by SC, then Cold Steel II though.
Cold Steel II's the most fun, imo, but it's just outright worse written than Ao and SC.
