As much as I enjoyed it and as big a part of my childhood it was, I wouldn't even put it in the top half.
It is an extremely flawed series with ridiculous premises even when you account for the giant fighting robots.
The biggest strike I have against it, though, is how much it took away from X, which I enjoyed much more, and could have been even better if it had gotten the same amount of time and love.
But that's just my opinion. Nothing wrong with enjoying something flawed. Sometimes its because of those flaws that we enjoy it.Except Destiny, fuck that show.

Hell, Wing is the only AU series before SEED that has always been consistently popular in Japan.

To me Zeta is my probable pick. Seeing Char being a good guy till later was awesome. I loved the mobile suits and the music was still that classic orchestrated style. Camille thankfully wasn't a total bitch for very long either. Also I think SEED was done very well. Peoples perception of Seed gets tainted heavily by the train wreck that is seed destiny but aside from it's stock footage I really enjoyed Seeds back and forth over who the "bad guys" where in the series.

Stylistically, it's pretty damn nice. the aesthetic design of the series is very dramatic and looks great, whether it be mechanical or clothes.
The weird thing however is the odd presence of that angled side-swept bangs haircut that several characters have (Trowa, Hilde, etc.)
Wing is ok but the pacing and overall story can be very tedious. I´m glad Glory of the loser exist since I don´t have to rewatch the entire snoozefest to enjoy the good parts of Wing.

I just read GoL up to volume 10, while I like how they streamlined and reorganized things, it does feel almost too fast and cut down.
Wing is bad and everyone here knows it. All you fags who like it watched it when you were children and never grew up. Name one person who decided to watch Gundam on their own accord, and when they got to Wing said "Yup, this is my favorite."

The really interesting part of this is how the reactions to IBO actually provide a good parallel for where some of GX's low ratings likely came from.
Some of these shows rewatch just fine when you have them all in front of you, but can lose steam fast if you only get an episode a week.
and with how GX's middle arcs took their sweet time, I can see how it would lose steam hard for some viewers even pre-time skip.
and I say this as someone who likes GX, but I don't agree with the fandom assessment that it's a blameless victim in what happened. The proverbial deck was stacked against it, to be certain, but parts of that are also on the show itself.

Tomino said what he had to say and did what he wanted to do with 0079, and he did it well. The history of him being against Gundam sequels is well documented. And Gundam without Tomino ranges from a trainwreck to mediocre.
I am a huge mecha fan, but to me Gundam is pretty much the equivalent of Call of Duty in the FPS genre. It was good before, but it quickly became a blatant cashcow for mainstream consumption the franchise is terrible overall.
Personally I think that G is the best series in the franchise.
