Hambrabi, Bolinoak and Messala all have claws/pincers built on top of their wrists that work pretty decently considering they're not even heated like the old Zeek melee weapons.

I want to think that he figured "Well I'm already on fire. Fuck it, I'm gonna charge into the hangar and let my reactor go critical!"
But since he was engulfed, he couldn't see which way was he was facing, so he just charged forward going "I HOPE THIS IS THE HANGAR! BANZAI!" It just so happened the direction he was facing when the fires fully engulfed his viewscreen was directly off the side of the launch ramp. Though the thought of him charging into the barricade then floating off uselessly into space would also be hilarious.

WackyModder84, we never actually see it used as projectile beam weapon. And it doesn't work like a point blatant beam shot. It's a burst of beam energy. I so think it's a pointless weapon outside of the G Gundam homage, sure, but it really just seems like it only functions as a shining finger. Besides, the only thing your idea for the thing changed, really, was turn the Shining Finger into a Shining Finger Sword.
