You have Universe A and Universe B.
In Universe A, our universe, the bomb detonated fine and nuclear fission was achieved, but at a great cost. All those people (mostly japanese people) who were affected by the bomb's disaster wished so hard that it wouldn't have happened that it created Universe B, ConRevo's universe, where instead that the Hiroshima bomb detonated, it misfired and didn't do anything, thus being labeled a failure which means nuclear fission never happened, leading to the oil crisis of the series.
What actually happened is that the hope of all the people in Universe A manifested when the bomb detonated, and gathered all the energy from it into a single baby, and in the process changing history and creating Universe B.

Which sort of falls apart when you realize that nuclear fission, and the idea of using it to generate power, were discovered before the Manhattan Project even began. It wasn't just a theory, either: fully functional nuclear reactors were in operation long before the bomb was dropped. In fact, that's how they got the plutonium used in the Nagasaki bomb - plutonium is a notable by-product of uranium fission.
But whatever. It may be wrong, but it does lead to interesting world-building concepts, which is what really matters. Besides, I gave up on expecting writers to know their shit about technical subjects years ago.
