Playing through MXP and realized I don't remember how shields work in later games. I know in A and AP they were a health buffer you couldn't restore once it was destroyed, and in MXP they seem to serve as a limited-use defense increase (75% damage? Haven't been paying close attention), but how do they work in other games? Just a chance to activate and reduce damage taken?
I actually really like the A version of the mechanic though there were problem cases like Daitarn 3 being even MORE unkillable in a game where it can oneshot literally anything.

Usually, it has a chance to trigger whenever you take damage and reduce it by 50%.
In a lot of games, if you defend though, it automatically triggers and also stacks with Defend, which is why Shields are one of the best abilities you can have in AP.

Ok, so Shields in MX work off the same principle they did in Impact - they're a limited use reduction barrier that costs nothing. The amount the barrier blocks is dependent on the Shield Defense level of the pilot (or the Blocking level I guess?) - IIRC it maxes out at like 1200.
If the enemy deals below the damage of the shield, you don't lose a shield in the blocking, which means big defensive Supers with Shields are really fucking good with this system.

My mistake, I only got around 15 stages into AP so I've forgotten most of the changes between it and A. Can't say I care for "It randomly triggers (Or always triggers when blocking) and always negates 50% damage" as shields are often destroyed before any real damage is dealt to the mech, hence my love for A's shield mechanic where you wear down the shield before dealing damage to the unit.

Alright that's good to know, Akurusu didn't have much to say on the subject beyond that Shield defense was a skill that activated your shields (While also saying that higher levels of shield defense weren't known to have other effects), so knowing that a higher level means better damage blocking is useful. Not a terrible mechanic and it does acknowledge shields getting destroyed through repeated attacks better than A's system did (Though I'm still partial to that idea).
Gonna end up having to make some edits there and to pilot skills, both of Mari (From Raideen)'s unique skills are missing from that page and as far as I can tell it's saying something about auto-casting Gain when she's above 120 will.

Gilliam in 2nd OGs mentioned that they hadn't finished analyzing the Swordian's Daggers teleporters from OGG yet. Meaning it's entirely possible for them to have wrapped that up by MD.
It's more likely than starting and finishing analysis on a whole new set of goodies.

The annoying part of the Hagane is that it's super easy to make it more interesting; let the player change the fucking bow. Getting the chance to switch between the extra space bow, drill bow, or tronium buster cannon bow would definitely go a long way into making me like it, but giving the ship a cool feature and doing nothing with it annoys me.

The "Hyper" part of HTB comes from having two Tronium engines being pushed to their limit and a heaping helping of psychic bullshit. The Hagane's Tronium Buster Cannon is running off just Tronium.
Unit size effecting damage in OG would help a lot, since apparently it doesn't do shit for anything but accuracy/evasion right now.

SRW in general doesn't give you reliable spammable map weapons anyway.
Alpha3 and Z3 are the exceptions because the grunts are a total chore especially near the end.

It doesn't have to be spammable, but having some that aren't super weak is nice. 2ndOG letting you upgrade all weapons at once helps a lot for stuff like Psycho Blaster/Cyflash but they're still on the weak end, and then the handful of Split Missile/TK Missile MAPs are pretty weak as well.
