It is hard to see a connection between the two. Doga looks more American influenced to me with it's m16 and the Zulu looks like it has a sturmgewehr.
Admittedly, I think that the Geara Zulu is basically the Doga with the Stahlhelm Heads from the Zaku II FZ B-Type.

At least the Jegan actually looks different from the GM, even if fulfilling a similar role and keeping a signature trait (visor).
The Geara series keeps the same color scheme and even specific design details of the Zaku series, like the shoulder shield and external cables. The Doga even also has the shoulder spikes (and although the Zulu removes that it has a face closer to the Zaku).

It seems purely aesthetic to me, which is why I don't like it. I think by comparison the Zulu looks much less interesting, and more like a Zaku, just to attract the OYW crowd. I would have preferred if they made it look closer to the Doga than a Zaku to attract the hardcore crowd, which I know is never considered by Banrise.
