Considering digimon is a franchise about digital monsters that's making a show about internet monsters and that 's older than mmbn i dont think so.
I'm happy about this personally. Them being based on apps is sort of similar to the original concept of a personal pocket pet and the digital monster aspect. It's a smart and much needed revamp.

I love everything except for the MC. The Green hair is kinda throwing off the color matching with Gatchmon. Might look ok standing with the Map one and the combined form though.

While I do agree that more recent designs have been steering way to far in to the humanoid, I'm also not too keen on this sort of redesign. If you didn't tell me these were digital monsters, I would have thought they were a high-budget version of those mobile Pokemon-clones you see every so often.

Oh wow this actually looks worse than I originally imagined. At least Pokemon isn't going out of their way to advertise their Pokemon Go! phone game, where as Digimon is straight whoring themselves out an entire season just to advertise their phone game. I understand that mobile games are big in japan, but this is a bit overboard.
As for the designs, the edgy one and yellow one look good, the green and main look kinda dumb. Overall I'm not too impressed though. The digivice looks neat though, just as a concept.

Digimon always advertises for their peripherals. Every show has them peddling the latest version of the Digivice, not to mention Tamers also pushing the card game as well as the video games thanks to Ryo's nonsense inclusion (and I say this with Tamers being my favorite)

Xros was already doing this and the XrosLoader had this functionality. It's just that it's been like 6 years inbetween then and Bandai has gone full noisemaker on their toys not just for something like Yokai Watch but for Kamen Rider and other properties too.

Eh... I'm feeling a little more optimistic about it, but not much. The Digimon designs are quirky enough without mimicking another series, but the MCs are a little too generic for my tastes. You could stick them in Cyber Sleuth, Yu-Gi-Oh or CardFight Vanguard without them looking too out of place. I hope they'll be bearable.
Also, I feel like I'm the only one who likes that they're including fusion in the gimmicks again. It seems like they're building off of what Xros Wars did, but still trying to do something new.
I just hope keeping with modern trends is enough to keep Bandai from cancelling the line halfway through again.

Nah I'm alright with it. I gave it a funny look when I first heard of the concept in Xros Wars but I came to love pretty quickly. It felt fresh compared to what I was used to in previous series.
Not sure I'm hyped for this series but I don't mind that the designs are based on smartphone apps. The fused form we've seen in the PV is a little meh, but hopefully we'll see some cooler ones down the line as the show progresses. Suppose we'll wait and see.
