If mecha is a term that actually just means any kind of robot then what's the specific term for a humanoid, piloted robot?

A humanoid, piloted robot.

English has a lot of words, no reason to restrict yourself to one.
>>
>>14320813
So isn't it more convenient to use the word mecha for a humanoid, piloted robot if we already have the word robot for robots in general?
>>
>>14320821
Mecha is a genre, not a term for a robot you moron.
>>
>>14320821
They overlap. Tanks were mecha before piloted anime robots were ever thought of, that's why it's called "mechanized infantry". "Robot" is also a very broad term that covers everything from mobile suits and Cybertronians to PLC-operated welding machines on automotive assembly lines.

Different franchises have their own specific names for piloted robots (mobile suits, destroids, orbital frames, labors, earthshakers, etc, etc). The "Rifts" role-playing game from Palladium used the catch-all term "robot vehicle", but technically that would also apply to non-humanoid things like the Gurab, AT-AT, Fuchikoma, and so on.

"Mech" with no 'A'

"Walker"

>what's the specific term for a humanoid, piloted robot?

There's no real world equivalent so it doesn't get one. This is why fiction writers just make up their own words for them like Mobile Suits, Guymelef, Battleoid, etc.

No, it's not. What sense would there be in someone called a "mecha designer".

Is this a troll?

Because designing mecha for the mecha genre (to include animation and toys) is literally what a mecha designer does.

Mecca.

Mecha is just the way Japan truncated the word "mechanical", you newfags.
>>
>>14321157
If it was for the mecha genre, he'd design any random aspect of a work that belongs to a work of that genre. But no, he designs robots specifically.
>>
>>14321167
So what? There's no sense in using the word the same way the japanese do. The word anime is a name for anime in general, but no one here would call a disney film anime.

Be careful, anon...

Transformers aren't robots, they're mechanical life forms. Robot implies it's a machine, not something with a soul.
>>
>>14321220
Note that is says "Disney presents" on it as opposed to traditional releases by the company just saying "Disney" on them (implying they are company made)
>>
>>14321220
When did Disney bought Ghibli?
Or did they just distributed it in america?

Technically, mecha doesn't even mean that.

A Maser Cannon is mecha. White Base is mecha. An X-Wing is mecha.
