Tekkaman Blade is proof that dark edgy reboots are a great idea
>>
>>14318601
It really only worked because it was genuinely depressing with how relentlessly it beat the shit out of D-Boy.
>>
>>14318601
I don't know, I hated Blade for the most part. The real Tekkaman series was entertaining for what it was with a nice theme tune and really creative and well-animated battles.
Blade was just garbage, and I'm fairly certain it's only mentioned on here because of nostalgia
>>
Reminder that Blade and Dagger were in a Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 mod once upon a time, and they were OP as fuck.
>>
>>14318626
I dunno if it's nostalgia. I watched it for the first time last year and loved it. I'm a sucker for the biological hazard stuff that the radam have going on. D Boy vs Evvil is a great rivalry.
>>
>>14318601
It only worked because all the original Tekkaman has is crabsticks, so we have no idea what its story actually is
>>
>>14319342
The first half was properly subbed years ago, keep up.
And if you can't figure out what's happening in the episodes with crabsticks just using the contextual knowledge from the ones with proper subs, then you're an idiot
>>

SETAAAAA

>>14318626
Watched it a couple of months ago and loved it. The story is OK, not everything is about it. It's the sum of all its parts that makes is pretty good.

That was for us American viewers the final episode of Teknoman (aside from the clip show). Most of us never saw the rest until the rise of high speed internet.

I have no idea. I live in a weird mix of angst over the amount of shows now missing BD subs, and reveling in the glory of our BD remastered age.

>Does everything get dark and fucked again anyways?
No the tone is a lot lighter except for Mr. CRAWLINGINMYSKIN
It lacks a good bit of tension from the first.
>>
>>14322051
Blade II is worth a watch even if you know is not going to be as good as the 1st season. It has its moments and some moderately cool ideas but at the end of the day the worst thing from it is that it goes fucking nowhere.
>>
>>14318651
Same here. Blade was my first Tekkaman exposure in...college, I think, and I absolutely loved it. There's a ton of QUALITY, but when the animation is good, it's really good. And the characters themselves make it for me. I thought D-Boy and Aki's relationship was cute, and the tragedy parts really got to me. as I always mention in a Tekkaman thread, the episode near the end where D-Boy goes back to his house makes me tear up almost every time ;_;

Blade II is worth it for Tekkaman Aki alone.

Yumi is annoying as fuck and fairly generic female protag.

Natasha is pretty useless.

David's brolust with Dead End is pretty cool.

The alien Tekkamen are neat and it's cool to see more of Radam technology beyond just the buggers the Radam spam in the original series.

It's crap compared to TB, but it's better than nothing.

It's an anomaly in the anime industry because it's one of the only shows where the animation gets consistently better as the series goes on. The standard is the opposite, to start strong.

Let's be honest, Tekkaman Blade works mainly because the design is so cool.
>>
>>14317920
Dammnit /m/ you're making me want to rewatch Blade.

Watched it like 4/5 years ago (one of my first /m/ anime!) and I thought the story was outstanding and great characters. And Blade looks so fucking god damn awesome.

What was that one episode that was mostly flashback to D-Boy with his family? Damn, that shit hurt.
>>
So I see a weaby flip at my work who wears anime shirts (I think mostly /m/ related) and he goes by the name of slade. I assume he likes the dub teknoman. Should I spout /m/ memes at him to see if he's one of you guys?
>>
>>14322051
I'd say that Blade II's problem is that it doesn't really explain anything outside of a few events.

I thought the Radam were eradicated? What happened to Milly and Rebin? They quit? How'd D-Boy get his mind back? Does Aki not have a Volt-Tekka or did she just not use it?

The idea of Primary Bodies from people who were placed inside of the Radam Plants, but not forced to go through the Tek-Set System was nice though.

I guess I wouldn't call it bad, just average. It's the sort of thing you'd expect from a series of OVAs following a large series

*Fuck, meant voltekka.
>>
>>14324565

>>
>>14325647
Rapier's Voltekka was the thing she used to kamikaze the three Radam Tekkamen when she died. It was a big area blast rather than a projected stream because she was all defective. Lance used his point blank on Blaster Mode Blade and he shrugged it off with no effect. Dagger was the only one who didn't really use Voltekka.
>>
>>14325689
>Rapier's Voltekka was the thing she used to kamikaze the three Radam Tekkamen when she died
That's what SRW would have us all think, but she didn't really call out Voltekka, her body didn't transform or anything to create the blast, it was just self-destruction. I don't think it was originally intended to be Voltekka (remember that Blade is also defective) and just got repurposed as such

Lance used one on Blaster Tekkaman Blade, and he completely no-sells it.
His is in the neck.

I don't think Dagger even has a Volt-Tekka

Lance really did kind of suck, didn't he. At least Dagger came close to beating Blade with that Crystal trap but Lance just straight-out jobbed.

I think I should finally give this a shot. I was freaking amazed by what I saw on UPN all those years ago, yet for some reason I've sort of let it sit rather than dive in.

Few questions:

1. Is Space Knight Tekkaman worth watching at all? I know it got cancelled halfway through, but is it any fun to watch? Will I see some nods in Tekkaman Blade that'll make me chuckle or smirk or whatever?

2. What order do the three OVA's go in? From Wiki, it seems clear Missing Link is Blad II episode 0, so that's easy. But what about Burning Clock and Twin Blood? Wiki alone isn't cluing me in on that.

3. Holy shit Blurays exist? Should I wait on watching this? Do we have the Op/Ed previews like we do for other bluray remasters?
>>
>>14331341
Twin blood is a redux of Blade and Evil's first fight in the city, but with updated animation and more organic Tekkaman designs. Burning clock provides a bit of backstory for Evil, and takes place right after his final fight with Blade.
>>
Holy shit I was randomly flipping through episodes and I forgot that Missing Link starts with Aki fucking a comatose D-Boy.
>>
I thought D-Boy faking amnesia was a nice twist for the standard protagonist trope.

1st Tekkaman series is not mandatory to watch, do it if you really want to.

>Will I see some nods in Tekkaman Blade that'll make me chuckle or smirk or whatever?
It has a couple yes.

Watch the OVAs in any order you want, won't change a thing. Just be sure to watch them after Blade and before Blade II.

Also consider that between one of the OVAs that serves as an "introduction" of sorts to Blade II, and the actual Blade II there is a world of differences and stuff that is never really fully explained.

>>14331369

The Tekkaman that aren't really related to D-Boy are often 'the weakest'. What with Dagger not having a Volt-Tekka and Lance being there until it's time for fodder for Blaster Tekkaman Blade. Lance mucks around and let's everyone wast his time until Blade appears and ruins him. I don't think he would have beaten Blade normally, but he really didn't have a chance to begin with.

Blaster Tekkaman Blade literally sends Evil running home crying.

Dagger at least got the time, and the idea to set up a trap for Blade

One thing I never really understood is
1) Why the crystal in the first place? Is it to make sure that the host doesn't use up all their energy as a Tekkaman?
2) Omega said that Blade's body would break down because of for forcing the Blaster form on himself.
So is Blaster Tekkaman a natural evolution being a Tekkaman and they'd come on to it naturally, or just something that's completely unneeded, like giving yourself the ability to run and jump at superhuman peeds but without the body to actually take care of it.
>>
>>14334072
My impression was that Blaster was an optional process that wasn't meant to be used by every Tekkaman, but rather might see use in places with extreme resistance. You're essentially trading the Tekkaman's longevity as a soldier for increased power, which is risky unless you have a large supply of them.

Of course, by the time of Blade II he'd apparently recovered from that, so who knows.
>>
>>14323024
She fucked his comatose body a few times, then his paralyzed self a few times, then again after he recovered.
>>
>>14331792
>Yeah, but he wasn't pretending anymore at the end
There's a difference between being amnesic and being a vegetable.
>>
Starting with this because the original Tekkaman the Space Knight isn't subbed, and I have this to ask: Is Blade II at least subbed?
