So I just re-watched Gunbuster for the first time in a few years. I was afraid it might not live up to my expectation but it sure as fuck did. For years it's has been my favorite anime and I think my love for it just rekindled. Probably not going to rewatch Diebuster though.

Going to post some art I find, Gunbuster thread.
>>
>A miracle can happen! I'll create one!

Yeah, just thinking about Gunbuster still blows me away.

I think one of the strongest parts is the soundtrack. It's amazing and fits in every scene.

Also, Fly High is one of the best /m/ songs and I listen to it when I run because it's incredible for motivation.

Has nobody translated Next Generation yet? I remember someone talking about it years ago on /a/. At this point I might as well do it.
>>
>>14311104
None of the Gunbuster manga have been translated as far as I know. Wikipedia says there's one that's been going on for five years now

It also told me about this, which I'm particularly curious about
>>
I'll never understand gunbusterfags. It was well animated and it was good. Not amazing, not bad, not mind-blowing,or ending moved me to tears, or any of that shit.

It's just good. It's like people circlejerk over it because they know it's supposed to be popular here and they just want to be a part of something.
>>
>>14311144
holy shit is this your first time witnessing fandom?

have I got news for you about all kinds of shit

I can't even find raws.

>>14311126
I remember seeing a video of this game somewhere but I can't find it either. There's also a Gunbuster quiz game for the PC98 I think.
>>
>>14311155
I'm very familiar with fandom but the gunbuster circlejerk is still strange. It's the only show that gets the 'omg I cried' threads over and over.
>>
>>14311104
I considered it, but after taking a look at the raws, it just doesn't seem very good. It also seems to just stop at a cliffhanger. I've done enough series that don't have an ending.
If you wanna do it, knock yourself out. I doubt anyone else will touch it.

>>14311126
I found a really shitty magazine scan of a single chapter of that recent manga you mentioned. This one I'd probably want to translate if proper volume scans ever surface.
I'm pretty sure it ended though, this scan is obviously at the very end of the story. Unless they continued into Diebuster territory or something.
>>
>>14311144
so your gona tell us how we should be as a fans of something, in my case something i genuinely love and have since the late 80's?

Fuck Right Off.
>>
>>14311187
No I'm saying gunbuster circlejerking has become an institution here. Everyone posts about how they cried or how it touched them or how it's perfect or whatever but it's not true they only say that because they're expected to.

It's just a well animated super robot show with titties and pubic hair and people should be allowed to criticize it without the gunbuster defense force getting triggered.
>>
>>14311144
Or...or maybe people like it? Have you ever considered that maybe it's not FOR you? You're allowed to not like it, it's fine. It's okay. But maybe, just maybe, some people can be moved by it without others being moved by it? That not everyone is the same? Just food for thought.
>>
>>14311229
Its fine to criticize things, and i personally wouldnt care, if not for the wording used. Its one thing to have a discussion as to why you do/dont like something, but questioning someones personal fandom of something and invalidating it is different.

Hell, i love DYRL, its my favorite anime. I dont care if you say you hate it or not, but saying my love of the film is invalid for "reasons" is going to get you pissed reactions anywhere, much less this place.
>>
>>14311179
Aren't there a few different manga?

>>14311229
You're allowed to criticize it all you want, and we may agree or disagree and it might lead to a fruitful discussion. Coming here claiming people only like it because it's popular is retarded and makes it seem like you're baiting.
>>
>>14311246
>>14311250
I accept that people like it legitimately but all the threads about how it made them cry or how defensive and vitriolic they get when anyone questions coach's decision making ability is just too cult-like for my taste.
>>
>>14311229
>it's not true they only say that because they're expected to.

How do you know that? Are you a mindreader?
Gunbuster didn't make me cry persay, but the big old welcome back at the end got to me emotionally. As did all the build up with Noriko doing things like visiting old friends who were now in their fifties and stuff.
>>
>>14311263
I cried. Get triggered, bitchboi
>>
>>14311263
No one cares about your taste in what they like. Just go on to another thread. Or hell, its 4chan, shitpost it up i guess if thats how you want to spend your time.
>>
>>14311275
>How do you know that? Are you a mindreader?

One, maybe two pussy little bitches crying at the end of their fan service super robot show I could understand but when the same threads and posts get made over and over for years it comes off as disingenuous and they're just forcing a meme at that point.

Is the end more emotional than average? Yes. Does it trigger mass-crying among people who've watched hundreds of other anime? I really don't think so.
>>
>>14311432
How is that not every single thread on 4chan?
>>
>>14311126
I can upload the ISO to mega, but I've heard it doesnt work too will with PCSX2.
>>
>>14311263

This makes laugh since I think it's an okay show that's propped up by a really strong and emotive finale that genuinely makes me tear up when I do see it, but I regularly question Coach's decision making and Noriko's value in these threads. I think Nono is a more interesting lead and a better example of hard work, since she was willing to be a waitress to be near the Topless from the start. Gunbuster is okay, but if lots of people love it, the more power to 'em really
>>
>>14311179
What are the Gunbuster manga even about? I heard one had Jung freeze herself or something to join them in the future.

This recent Gunbuster manga is an adaptation of the OVA.
Diebuster got a manga way back then that was literally the OVA scene by scene, though I only ever saw two chapters of it. Don't know if it was finished.
Gunbuster the Next Generation is a direct sequel to the original OVA, Jung and Tashiro appear in it. The leads are new girls with a new Gunbuster. The art looks nice but it feels kinda weird. Seems to have some odd humor, like their "Choach" is this really young and good looking guy who's actually completely bald and wears a wig, and this is kind of a running gag or something? I didn't take the time to actually read it. The second volume, which seems to be the final one, ends the final chapter in the middle of a battle and then there are pages upon pages of full text.
>>
>>14314604
Thanks. I'd really love to hear Jung's thoughts about everything after the series.
>>
>>14314307
Would appreciate it. I'll run it on my modded PS2.
>>
Since this is a Gunbuster thread, has the last two Science Lessons episodes ever got subs, even the EG release lacks them.

I don't know about anyone else, but I tried it and found it far inferior just because I didn't dig the style. I think people who like the modern gainax feel probably like it, but for it me it was an "expectations vs. what I got" issue.
>>
>>14316111
I didn't really connect with the characters all that much and the action scenes bored me despite all the ridiculous shit they involved. It takes special talent to make a robot throwing Jupiter boring
Needed a better director
>>
>>14316111
Hated it initially but by the end I thought it was decent

Enjoyed it more on the second viewing
>>
>>14316111
Gunbuster was 'destroy the enemy with super science and hard work and GUTS!'

Diebuster was 'destroy the enemy with hard work and GUTS! super science just gets in the way!'

So your opinion basically hinges upon whether you like robots and spaceships fucking shit up or pilots fucking shit up more directly

Im about to start watching it for the first time.

My torrent of it came with these 'Science Lessons'.

When am I supposed to watch these? In Between every episode?

Pic relate
>>

yeah, criticize it all you want
but you're not really criticizing it, you're just saying people like it too much, whatever that means. lol
>>
>>14316111
Too much awful CGI
>>
>>14322164
watch them whenever, they're comedy relief chibi animation shorts that don't have anything to do with the plot, they're for your enjoyment
>>
>>14322337
Oh, I thought they were to explain the science or whatever.

I'll ignore 'em for now, I guess.
>>
I want to rape Noriko!
>>
>>14322654
She'd have your scrawny bitch ass on the ground crying if you tried.
>>
>>14322573
Watch them from the start if you like SCIENCE. They don't really give any spoilers, beyond the power creep from 3rd gen to 5th gen ships. (How the hell is Gunbuster still the most effective unit 2 tiers later anyway)

Watch them whenever or skip them if you only like robots punching things
>>
Haha, it's all fake science (well... science fiction), but it's written convincingly. Just one of the little touches that makes this OVA feel like a labor of love.
>>
>>14316111
better in every way except for the boob physics, nothing can beat gunbuster in that regards\
>>
>>14308464
I went in expecting crushing disappointment and really enjoyed it. It's kind of controversial but I think that it does a good job of succeeding Gunbuster by being its own thing but retaining enough familiar elements and more importantly the tone of the original.

It's got a great OP and ED as well as some really nice looking scenes.
>>
Why can't I find a full version of the OP and ED for Gunbuster anywhere?
>>
>>14322654

Noriko is a drawing. You cannot rape a drawing, man! You really ought to get your head examined...
>>
>>14307792
Diebuster is better.
