The animation inconsistency I can excuse for its time, but the writing felt REALLY inconsistent when looking from episode to episode.
Some episodes were really good storytelling, some were just awful, and then some forgot entirely that this was about Sonic.Still mad it was cancelled before Knuckles showed up.

It's DiC, expecting them to be consistent with anything is a lost cause. The only consistent thing they do is eventually run any IP they own/borrow into the ground.

I will say this, Sonic SatAM is one of the few non-game Sonic properties I can go back to and still enjoy.
It stopped before it went full retard like the Archie comics following it.

The atmosphere was legit great.

Yeah, for whatever reason the atmosphere and tone left me more invested in SatAM much more than the light hearted gag filled other sonic show that was going around that time.
The swatbots and robotized characters at least looked somewhat menacing, city looked bleak and unwelcoming. Robotnik's voice was wonderfully villianous and imposing.
Was kinda of dark at times now that I think of it, kinda touched on mortality issues at times (robotizing stripping out free will, losing people,...), which maybe allowed it to age better than some works since those issues only get more prominent as you get older.Is the robotizing even still a thing or is it all just, lol Dr Eggman builds more quirky robots to take over the world again this week
too bad the fandom eventually poisoned things for me, but at least I can look back on some found childhood memories

It happens occasionally. One important character did get fully roboticized, though I think that got dropped when a reboot got initiated for the comic universe after the first MM/Sonic crossover.
