I agree.Special Titans are purely-biological biomechs, normal Titans are unmanned drones, Titan Shifters are pilots. The main character gets his biomech because his dad was a biomech specialist. (That last one also applies to stuff like Cutie Honey and Kill la Kill, but I don't think many will deny that it's especially common in /m/.)
