The dialogue is very different and has a lot less stupidity and contradictions. Much of the animation is also fixed as well...
There's still a lot of god awful quality, but the JP version IS a lot better, more evenly written, ultimately.
Also, the karyuudo fansubs release lets you choose between JP names and US names for factions and Pirme.
