Is it any good? I remember sometime last year people were discussing it in a Xenogears thread, but I can't remember why exactly. Are there similarities?
>>14273254
It's great
It was defiantly interesting if nothing else
>I remember sometime last year people were discussing it in a Xenogears thread,
Buh?
>>14273666
I don't remember why, but I remember it happening. Something to do with the themes of the show? It might have been a far-fetched comparison, but it's the reason I even put Neo-Ranga on my backlog.
>>14273254
>I remember sometime last year people were discussing it in a Xenogears thread,
Yeah, that was me, sorry. I just like bringing up the show whenever I can to raise awareness.
so who's your favorite shimbara?
>>14273727
Oh ok. So you guys were just randomly talking about it or does it share something with xg?
Either way it seems like an interesting anime. I'm thinking of checking it out.
>>14273796
Purple/blue
>>14273862
Yeah I mentioned it because of its discourse on God and the relevance of religion to present-day society
One of these days I'll write a thesis on the various themes and motifs that can be found under the surface in Neo Ranga, it's a fascinating series to analyze
>>14273254
SRW when?
>>14273796
Minami. Mostly because Shougo was my favorite character and I liked his interactions with her.
Is it just me or did the last stretch of the show seem rushed? Like oh shit we got to end this. Alsothe fuck was up with the loli molestation out of no where??? That was really jarring.
>>14273796
The youngest, because her answer to every problem was to throw their pet kaiju at it.
>>14274650
I didn't think all of the alien stuff was needed.
>>14274499
Interesting. Now I'm curious.
Also it seems each ep is only ~15 min long? Any idea why?
>>14274650
>Is it just me or did the last stretch of the show seem rushed?
Has a lot to do with the rather liberal translation. For example, Tao isn't some last-minute addition to the show - he's actually mentioned pretty early on, but the dubtitles translated that line to something else entirely. It's a shame really. Hopefully Discotek will pick it up one day and retranslate the whole thing.
>>14275123
Most episodes are actually two-parters. Instead of 48 half-episodes, think of it as 24 full-length ones. Also note that if you're downloading the sono1998 encode off of nyaa (that's the best quality available), episodes 2-4 are missing their first minute-and-a-half, so grab another release for those specific episodes. The dub is really fun too as long as you're not a complete weeb.
>>14273796
Ushio
>>14275137
Pic related is the faulty translation I was talking about - the line should be "This is not the same Ranga that has been sealed away by the Old God, Tao."
I wish there were more works based in Indonesian Mythology (or at least with an OST using a Gamelan Orchestra, it's eerily catchy):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAhzC-amkPA
>>14275173
Better example:
https://youtu.be/hsN1FV_vcq0?list=PLdvWeH_Jp0tcyW5GdZu7HGu9m68J30-6A
>>14275164
Another example - the line should be "Instead of the prince, you three were chosen", seeing as they do have a prince that's right there next to them (Joel)
Keep in mind that these examples are few and far between, and you can understand the show just fine, it shouldn't hinder your enjoyment. It's totally worth your time, one of the best hidden gems I've seen.
>>14274499
So does Neo Ranga have commentary on "Gods" vs. Gods and the corruption of religion and meeting "true" God itself or w/e the Xenogear and Xenosaga games did? (been a while since I played them but I thought the whole aspect was pretty interesting)
>>14273254
I'm still disappointed at the lack of actual tribal nudity until the very last episode or two.
Also, it was hilarious how the initial DVD releases had the girls colored into black and red bodysuits but the later releases went uncensored.
Censored pic related.
Why are the episodes so short?
>>14275369
It aired as part of the Anime Complex block.
>>14274818
it's a good thing Yuuhi is a good girl because she's honestly pretty terrifying
>>14275354
>Also, it was hilarious how the initial DVD releases had the girls colored into black and red bodysuits but the later releases went uncensored.
actually if memory serves (becuase Im to sick to get out of bed) did't the DVDs have reversible covers with the naked version on the flip side
>>14275405
I haven't seen this series, are there a lot of slightly Dogu looking things like this
>>14275428
there's a shit ton of weird ass kaiju
we had some anon here post them all with wiki like descriptions last couple of threads
>>14275354
Also dissappointed on the lack of it on the interwebs in general. Then again this is an obscure 90s anime.
>>14275553

>>14275576
That's not what I meant, anon.I have a fetish for tribal girls the amount of Neo Ragna porn isn't enough pls don't judge me
>>14275657
you want lewd?
>>14275354
>had the girls colored into black and red bodysuits
I'm not the only one who thinks that actually looks better than the uncensored version right?
>>14275173
Not /n/, but Shigurui's OST uses Gamelan
This is a mecha show? I saw the trailers on my dvds and just looked weird.
>>14276283
It is.
Also yes. While it certainly stays closer to the kaiju side of the genre there is a military mecha that makes routine and contractually obligated appearances that is piloted by a justice happy fanboy.
>>14276746
Doesn't only become useful in like the last few episodes?
Roughly what % of the show is naked grills in body paint? This is important.
>>14278132
You're going to be disappointed
>>14278115
No, It was just a piece of shit throughout the whole series.
>>14278132
Like almost 0%. They're only like that in the opening.
>>14278163
they do get naked in the last few episodes though
>>14278357
No bodypaint though.
I wish I could sue the mofos who did this show for marketing misdirection.
>>14280767
>A god golem gets 3 sisters slaved to him.
>>14280927
>>14280929
I'll be honest, I really want an /m/ series revolving about a primitive tribe who hasn't even really advanced beyond loincloth covering and their god, which is really the last surviving mecha of the ancients who arrived on the planet long ago. Their song, dance, tales, and rituals turn out to actually be some of the methods or means to reactivating the god and the god machines, created and passed down by the ancients to preserve knowledge as they steadily regressed due to a lack of skills in being able to maintain their technological capability.
And it just so happens that a topless female of the tribe is destined to be the pilot of the "god". The toplessness of the girl and other females of the tribe would be played straight, as if it was a perfectly normal thing and it's the offworlders they encounter who are unused to it all.
>>14280955
However, getting an accidental peak of what's under their loincloths (and the fact they wear nothing underneath) would be considered an act of perversion by the tribe females.
>>14280958
>Not wanting them to encourage and take the lead teasing about what the young foreigner may or may not have seen
>>14281335
You know what, you're right.
They are tribal females who've accepted nudity as a part of life. So cockteasing would be more inline than a sudden ecchi hentai smack.
Moreso if one of them ends up inadvertently mating with an offworlder who challenged one of the tribal girls in return, and it escalated from there.
Man, the official art is so risque, but was almost non-existent in the anime.
>>14275438

Yup, that was me. I'll dump them again tomorrow.

Sarah was too much of a prude for someone who baths outside
so what was up with the dragon
Hatsune
As Christmas came to Japan, massive vines emerged from the grounds beneath Tokyo. They crawled up around the highest skyscrapers, leaving the nation to wonder what was going on. Many believed the creature had come due to the current state of agriculture in Japan while others believed it had come to end the useless holiday known as Christmas. The majority of the city abandoned the holiday, but the Shimabara sisters continued with their plans of festivities. As they danced around the Santa-dressed Neo Ranga, the vines around the city retreated into the ground and a monolith of vegetation confronted the black giant!
Hatsune’s vines lashed out and constricted the Barou god, but he was easily able to rip the vegetation away. As they continued to battle, pea-like pods from the Kyoshin’s top began to open fire. Numerous sprouts began to grow on Neo Ranga’s body, rapidly absorbing the water within him. However, the creature made the fatal mistake of attacking during the winter. The snow that began to fall rejuvenated Neo Ranga, reviving him fully. Hatsune began to open fire again, but it was useless. The dark beast thrust his hands into its chest and ripped it apart, killing the agricultural Kyoshin.
Appa
As the invasion of the Curiotes swept across the globe, dozens of Kyoshin rose up to obey their masters. Appa, one of the strangest of them all, appeared within China and eventually made its way toward Japan. The bizarre thing was confronted by Neo Ranga, but their duel was soon to be cut short. The Japanese people, furious at Neo Ranga for the damage he had been causing during his wars and blaming him for the pending doom the planet now faced, began to revolt against him. As garbage and other such things were tossed at the Barou island god, Neo Ranga’s wings unfolded and he took flight, leaving Appa behind.
Not long after, as humanity ordered the execution of Neo Ranga, Appa joined forces with two other Kyroshin to battle Neo Ranga on the island of Barou. As all four beasts lifted into the sky, naval ships opened fire on the black giant with tremendous amounts of firepower, obliterating the mortal enemy of the mighty god Tao. Their mission seemingly successful, Appa returned to its territory.
Ibuki
Thought to be the most powerful of Kyoshin and the front of a revolution that swept across Japan, Ibuki demanded change. Having merged with the human Kazuo Fujiwara, the God arrived in the midst of the change in government. Having been outfitted with more modern weaponry, the Kyoshin challenged Neo Ranga. The god of Barou fought back, but not even in his berserker state could he overcome the might of Ibuki. The revolutionist fired his new ASE launcher, blowing a hole straight through Neo Ranga! The black giant was thought to be dead and Ibuki, with the Kyoshinkai movement, successfully seized control of the government.
However, it was all just a ploy. As a wormhole opened up in space and more Kyoshins arrived under the command of a superior race from beyond, the Curiotes, they waged war in an attempt to change the world. The Japanese revolution and Fujiwara’s role in it was but a mask for something greater. Realizing this just as Neo Ranga returned, under the control of Ushio Shimabara, to battle Ibuki, the giant went mad. However, Neo Ranga avoided his launcher’s blast and finally opened the door of time, virtually pulling the launcher from the past and firing it several minutes later in the future. The round burrowed deep into Ibuki, obliterating the ancient one and Fujiwara.
Reiya
It was once a proud and mighty Kyoshin, but time wore its body down. Slumbering for eons within a rocky cliff, the mighty being was cared for by members of the Shimabara family. With the advent of Neo Ranga’s arrival to Japan, the great lord Reiya awoke. Its body literally melting away, the creature tried to evade the black monster. It leapt into the air, but just as it came down, the beast’s life ran to an end. Falling to the ground, its flesh bubbled and body dissolved. The millions of year’s worth of life came to an abrupt end.
here we go
thanks man
Plutiwee
With the use of his Curiotes, Tao convinced mankind to slay Neo Ranga. To help get the job done, three Kyoshin were deployed to weaken the black behemoth. Appa and Plutiwee, along with another giant, attacked Neo Ranga on the island of Barou. In their war, naval ships opened fire and seemingly killed the dark giant. However, for the Curiotes, the victory was short lived. Neo Ranga returned!
Knowing that so long as Ranga existed, the world would be threatened with annihilation by Tao, Minami and Yuuhi agreed to take control of Plutiwee and destroy Neo Ranga once and for all. However, their sister Ushio had merged with the dark one to challenge. As their brawl ensued, Masaru gained the wrath of Minami. By using her own secret desires against her, he forced her to attack him. Plutiwee dove down at Akasa, but an invisible barrier tore the strange Kyoshin to shreds.
Yamase
As Neo Ranga and the Shimabara sisters prepared for a live TV show, the vile Kyoshinkai unleashed their latest monster. A beast of entertainment controlled by one of the leading umbrella acrobats in all of Japan, it approached the black giant. Enraged at the very sight of the Kyoshin, Neo Ranga set out to attack, but the orange monolith deflected his blow with its umbrella. The umbrella then began to spin, generating a massive amount of hurricane-like winds and threatening to blow the god of Barou down. However, Neo Ranga spotted just the distraction he needed: a young girl down below. Stretching out his fingers, he removed the girl’s bikini top to distract the man controlling Yamase. Distracted by the sight of her bouncing bosom, Yamase’s umbrella was cut off and the Kyoshin hoisted on top of it. The entertainer was thrown from its body before the goofy creature was thrown to the side, thought to be dead.
Kamikaze Yamase
Defeated and left for dead, Yamase’s body was gathered and outfitted with thousands of pounds of raw explosives. The kamikaze Kyoshin was deployed the next day as Neo Ranga and the sisters prepared for another appearance live on TV. With the young Tokimi, whom was a former best friend of Minami Shimabara, trapped in its gapping mouth, Yamase clashed with Neo Ranga. Powerful explosions tore across their bodies as Minami, riding on the black giant’s shoulder, reached out for the young woman to no avail. His rage growing with every passing second, Neo Ranga transformed his hand into a scythe just as the television cameras counted down to go live. He swung the blade, decapitating the Kyoshin and sending its body spilling into the sea. Not only did he save Tokimi, but prevented the world from seeing him battle a monster with a hostage. The Kyoshinkai’s plans to make the giant look like a merciless killer were foiled yet again.

Salume
Uncovered from beneath the ground, Salume was the latest Kyoshin discovered by the Kyoshinkai. She was believed to be the strongest and the organization was determined to prove that by having her defeat the Kyoshin’s sworn enemy: Neo Ranga. With one of the Shimabara sisters’ friends cheering her on, she and Neo Ranga engaged in battle within a huge stadium. With thousands of people watching on, the bell-like creature extended her arms and ensnared the black giant with them. However, when Laburey began to chant the peaceful song of Barou, something within the Kyoshin broke. Her body began to fall apart, ending the life of yet another ancient Kyoshin.
Minakata
Discovered by the Kyoshinkai, an organization that worships the monstrous Kyoshins, Minakata was fused with Laburey, making it impossible for Neo Ranga to face the creature and be viewed as the hero. The black giant’s burning hatred for the Kyoshin blinded him and he attacked without remorse. The aquatic Kyoshin's water shield snapped the tip off of Ranga's sword and the god’s hand blade barely made it through the waters. Furious, horns ripped from the side of Neo Ranga’s skull and he rammed into the wall of water like an enrage bull. Minakata was quick to react and pumped the dark giant with thousands of gallons of water and quickly froze it, causing spikes of ice to burst from Ranga's body! Wounded, Neo Ranga was forced to retreat as Laburey remained fused within the Kyoshin’s body.
Days later, Minakata was standing in the water when Neo Ranga flew in for a rematch. Enraged and regeneration, Neo Ranga slammed into the humanoid giant and tore off its arm! Laburey was pulled from its body and the Kyoshin seemingly slain, but what was left of the ancient guardian of the sea was outfitted with even more technology thanks to the Kyoshinkai.
Posting some other random Ranga images
Whoops forgot one
Discovered and modified by the Kyoshinkai, Yoshino was given a grand form of photosynthesis to hopefully counter Neo Ranga's impressive regeneration. Upon its release, the creature proved too hostile to control and they attempted to contain the green blob with liquid nitrogen. The plan seemed to work, but the creature began to fight back and eventually dove into the ground. It went missing for sometime before appearing in Osaka, the very location of Neo Ranga and the Shimabara sisters were vacationing! The self-defense forces refused to ask for their help and tried to contain the mass of green slime on their own, but they repeatedly failed.
When it threatened innocent lives, Neo Ranga was finally allowed to combat the creature. He flew in near the world-famous Osaka Castle and began tearing its body to shreds with his bare hands. He clumped the pieces he tore off into balls and threw them into the distant bay, the saltwater acting as a dissolvent for the strange creature’s goo. In just a matter of minutes, Neo Ranga did what humanity repeatedly failed to do: destroy Yoshino.
